I am negative about this game lately but hey, this is a good change. They are making foundational investments in this game and this is an excellent sign.

What I'm speculating here is that whatever features they are planning on rolling out wouldn't work on old server hardware so they just have to upgrade the entire thing. This is a huge investment for a company so it's likely an indicator that whatever they have planned its worth upgrading the servers for.

If it were a small thing it would be better to axe the planned feature and keep the existing infrastructure in place, its cheaper. As for the graphics update thats mostly client side. With the changes to the netcode as well this is the stuff solid, big changes come from. It's true. It could be a whole lot of nothing but it doesn't make sense to make these moves just to keep providing more of the same we've seen in previous expansions.

Per their statements as well its clear this is for the future, not just maintenance because old servers are failing.

Might help a little with some latency issues.

I suspect more likely it's related to log in queues. The Endwalker queues were a mess and I remember older equipment being mentioned as part of the problem. They don't want that to be repeated when 7.0 gets released.

I wouldn't be surprised if the final installation work for the hardware for the last 4 Dynamis servers is getting done at the same time. The timing would be about right if the plan is still to open those worlds mid to late Spring.

it's honestly surprising how all of this has lined up..,
Course none of this will stop some thread from peeking their heads.., or people saying it's the worst time ever, bad content, etc etc.<it has merit, but no way to tell rn how badly they had their hands tied.>

Since the surge pre-Cv19/CCreator/Etc.., or lack of unknown quantities of DevPower from XVI/Graphics Update/Datacenter expansions-Travel.

For me, it'll only be a hopeful expectation, and another thing to balance on my expectations vs reality scale. <Since I cannot blame them for lack of proper implementation if they are literally spread thin globally I'm various topics>

Maybe there wasn't a last time. Just the first time. This wouldn't be all that surprising either given how companies milk their servers. Southwest just had a meltdown because of how old their stuff was. It's not uncommon for companies to drive them into the ground. Maybe repair individual pieces that fail.

I don't recall there ever really being a straight up upgrade like this to the servers. Some updates to infrastructure and the like, sure, but this might be the first time they have said "Yeah, we're upgrading this stuff."

When the servers were moved from Montreal to Cali we got an upgrade. They didn't physically move the servers. But that was the last time.
