Considering what COVID did to the sense of taste and smell for many people, I wouldn't be certain about that.

The good thing is that if it tastes like garbage, you always have the option of not eating it and going to a different restaurant.

Yeah, I know a couple of people whose tastes changed entirely after they got Covid. Some of what they enjoyed eating or drinking before isn't appealing now. Thankfully that hasn't happened to me, even though I've gotten it twice. The first time I was recently vaccinated and boostered, which helped. I might grow an extra limb or something a decade down the road, but I regret nothing.

In keeping with this analogy, yes you can absolutely find another restaurant (MMO) to eat at. However, there are only a handful of other restaurants even worth visiting, and one of them has been in the news for harassing their waitresses, while another is owned by amazon and mysteriously had 90% of its customers disappear overnight. Another one, still, is free food but they charge you for a chair, for a fork, for a knife, for a plate, for use of the door to get in, and the menu is entirely RNG. The other smaller restaurants are rat dens that somehow haven't gone under yet, but also haven't had a customer show up in years and years so you're a) wary to even try it, and b) not about to fall in love with a restaurant that's in maintenance mode. And then every year there's another restaurant that's in construction that's "gonna change food as we know it," but 95% of the time it flops in the first month.

The mmo genre as a whole is in a nasty place right now in general. I've tried other "restaurants" and they're not great either. I won't speak for everyone, but being an MMO gamer often feels like total shit and it's really hard to just go back to single player games once you get a taste of how a persistent online living world feels. Since 6.35 I've been too laggy to really enjoy the game, so I've just been at work more and reading books and watching short films and stuff instead. I feel like XIV is better than a lot of other options, but it sort of wins by default since the competition is sexually harassing its workforce or outright scamming/lying to its players.
