Question for the people who don't dislike the 2nd relic step

Because I'm a rather casual player with limited gametime who also plays several other games, one of which (Destiny 2) just launched an entire new expansion and is currently my "main" game while I enjoy playing thru that. When I come back around to FFXIV in a bit, this is a nice convenient step that'll let me pick up a couple relic weapons while doing basically whatever I want (read: enjoy most) in the game. Artificially long grinds aren't necessarily a good thing in my view.

Also, if your goal is to avoid a flame war, starting with "how in the world could anyone possibly like this?" seems either a brain-fart at best or disingenuous at worst.

"I want to have everything, all the rewards, while playing another game as my main game and not playing FFXIV" is a TLDR of this as someone else mentioned

If anything your type of "casual" is the worst, you feel like you deserve everything because "I dont have time" while you are literally playing another game as your main game, but somehow you still deserve to have everything in a game you basically ignore, its actually pretty gross, and people like you give casuals a bad name.

You know doing all the daily roulettes save for Mentor, Guildhests, and Frontlines can only get you around 800-900 Astronomy, right? He's having to play the game quite a bit to get one weapon done. Something you're likely aware of...but you're not arguing in good faith, now are you?

Because after ARR the relic became kind of pointless and weaker, especially when you can get the tomestone weapon in much less time and for less grind, or even crafted weapons which you can pentameld. Heck I never finished my Minos Light Grind and I already a fully upgraded tomestone weapon by that time, so I gave up on it.

Sure, the final upgrade for the relic made it better than a tomestone weapon, and the stats are normally BiS so definitely can see the appeal, but by then you could get an upgraded tomestone weapon in MUCH less time and probably just as good as the relic (it's only 5 ilvl of difference in the end, and unless you raid I'm sure it barely matters). The whole relic grind wasn't worth it IMHO, it was just an incredibly grindy glamour to get.

In Arr at least the relic was somewhat worth the grind as you couldn't get the best weapon just yet, so even if the Atma fate grind sucked you would still get a superior weapon by the time they introduced tomestone stuff. I practically never changed my relic back there because it was always up to date, or at least I think it was.

At least now not only it's worth it (you can't upgrade your tomestone weapon yet, so it's still stuck at 620) but it's also less grindy, and if we start from the first part, it's only 3000 tomestomes total...the Atma books were 1500 and they were 7!.

TL;DR I don't dislike it cause it's less grindy.

Could've been better yes, but I ain't complaining. Don't need to do any Eureka or bozja thing so I'm happy!

What meaningful grind? The only point where relics have hit BiS status in previous expansions is always well after the content they would be good for clearing is already being regularly farmed. In terms of actual usage after their expansions, they only are consistently good for scaling into Ultimates. Unless you're doing Ultimates, you're not getting much for completing them unless you're dramatically behind on current gear when they're released.

Unless you're doing that, the only thing you're really getting out of the weapons is a shiny look with a glow effect.

it is not about being bis or any of that. it is about having something to work towards. these relics are no effort, just do a goofy quest with hildebrand or whatever, who is not even funny btw, and turn in tomes that u have already capped from the last 3 months of boredom.

if it is just some small tomes and add to ur latest random alt class then what is the point? we have tome weapons already which i dont think people realize. why even have tome weapons then? just put every relic appearance on the vendor and stop making ppl wait a year for 5 min questline. btw it is hilarious they put 6.3 out 2 months ago and we had to wait around with nothing to do and all we got is a 5 min questline where u play as a naked dude hitting robots.

Im sorry but...where the hell did they say they "deserve" anything? YOU pulled that out of nowhere to make someone look bad. Literally why? All they said was that it's convenient for how they spend their time. They didn't even call long grinds outright bad.

Have you done the splendorous tools stuff yet that were also added with this patch? Its for crafting and gathering. Its also a follow up to the stuff from the manderville quests. Its also far more grindy compared to the manderville stuff. Currently I have the crystalline relics for alchemy, botany, fishing, and mining; currently working on culinarian. Time may vary but for me at least it took quite a few hours each day for each one.

I mess around an hour or 2 after spending all of said tomes and start seeing that message again saying I failed to obtain tomestones because i've hit cap.

I play multiple games not really focusing on this one during content lulls. I've had friends in this game and other games say they cannot wrap their heads around how I get so much done in the games I play in a short amount of time after finding out I'd gotten a considerable amount ahead of them despite logging less hours or having long periods of being AFK in the game. I just tell them when I sit down to do something I get it done, and if I see ways to kill 2,3,4,5,6... 50,000 birds with 1 stone I'll do it. The rest IMO is just having a natural eye for detail and decades of experience looking for such opportunities in game and life. I'm not "speed running" my games or any of that nonsense where you don't actually experience the game because you're focused entirely on a timer. I've simply learned to cut out wasted motions, wasted effort, and wasted time where you accomplish nothing while playing the game.

Despite my limited time I don't care to have the game essentially progressing a relic weapon with 0 effort. The "grinds" for the previous weapons at least gave me something to do when I sit down to play this game. I'd have done the Hildibrand questline regardless if they hadn't linked the relic to them simply because I enjoy those questlines.

Without saying that I don't dislike it, I will say that not having to endure another Eureka is a plus, I would have liked a less easy method though.
The problem here is that we were all expecting content that would keep us entertained until the next patch, but now it's going to be done in a couple of weeks, to get them for all our jobs.

The Endwalker relic is free and effortless, no merit for even enduring weeks of grind, light farm and other such joys. Zero merit.

As for the skins, well, I'd say some are cool and some suck.
I was expecting better for the SGE relic, I'll stick with the Divine Light one.

The way yoshida kept mentioning island sanctuary is taking away the relic zone... kind of feel like relic was going to basically be another eureka style deal.

Which was cool once but if the options are doing that again or farm some tomes I'm unfortunately on team farm some tomes.
If it was something more interesting like how zenith weapons had you doing missions encompassing almost every aspect of the game my opinion would be different
