If you're only subbing to an mmo because of a virtual house, yes, that is a good response. Unless you enjoy the house that much, which I can't quite understand, but hey, it's your money. Continue to support a game you say you dislike.
So the current demolition on housing is 45 days. Lets say if you did not login for 45 days, all of the progress on your character was deleted. Are you ok with this? If not, then you should also dislike the concept of limited housing with demolition.![]()
Then why release content at all? Your argument would be the same if they just stopped development all together. The only "required" content in this game is MSQ because it locks you out of alot of content if you dont do it. Everything else is optional, and your choice to do it or not. You can already value your time regardless of how much content there is or not. What you need to actually think about is valuing your moneyPeople often forgets that FF14 is a live service game, and it's PvE to boot. PvE generally has low replayability compared to PvP live service genres, such as FPS shooters and MOBAs. What FF14 has to offer : Newer boss fights for you to crack its mechanics, beat it, get their gear and call it a day. Anything else would be non-gameplay related activities such as role-playing, self-organized activities with FC members, fishing etc. Players whom lament FF14 for not having grindy content are just begging devs to give them a reason to waste their time on this game. But just as the devs have made their stance, your time is yours solely. It's up to individuals to think how they want to use their time wisely, than expecting devs to grant fulfillment for them.
All by design.
Love how they turned off demolition because of a war and a pandemic, but now that the war's still going and the virus mutates every month SE arbitrarily decided to turn demo back on because uhh ummm *checks calendar* ah right, the WoW expansion dropped and wasn't complete dogshit.
I hope everyone notices that in Yoshi's quote he never tells people to unsubscribe. Merely to play other games. This quote is the politest way of saying "dude, get off my nuts and just play something else instead of expecting my live service that I'm billing you for to have content." In order for XIV to truly foster a healthy environment, a home should absolutely be a forever-thing, with instanced housing being standard like it is in 99% of games that do housing. But, oh. Look at what game I'm talking about. We'll never have instanced housing.

No, I wouldn't like it. Guess what I would do? I would stop supporting the game.
You get 80% of your gil back.
If you aren't playing the game then why torture others. What a self-centred post.

As long as Square Enix doesn't remove housing auto-demolition altogether, those words of Yoshi-P mean nothing to me. I can't take a break from FFXIV, because Square Enix forces me to sub at least every 1.5 months by taking my house hostage. While this is a natural part of the content release cycle in any MMO, it's absolutely important to remind ourselves of Yoshi-P's own words regarding taking breaks from XIV if you're feeling burnt by the game... especially given the negative feedback regarding content such as the new relic "grind".
Also, I don't want to take a break. I want to keep playing FFXIV, because I love this MMO. That's why it makes me angry that we don't get meaningful content that can be grinded for weeks and weeks, like Eureka or Bozja. At this point I'm super jealous of World of Warcraft players. I've tried that game for 6 months and it definitely isn't my game, because to stay relevant in current content you need to dedicate yourself and invest so much time that it doesn't feel like a game anymore, but like one big chore. Something I never felt in FFXIV.
Yet, if there's one thing I could never complain about in that short time I played WoW is lack of content. The only content that I have left in FF to do is grinding old relics, doing ultimates and grinding PvP (something I absolutely hate). Only super monotonous stuff. I want to be able to do stuff in FF. There simply is nothing left, which makes me sad and angry. Heck, I've spent 80% of the last couple of months in Eureka Pagos, because that was more interesting than anything else I could do.
Yes, people usually enjoy the house that much. Especially all the people that didn't just go to a placard once, clicked "ok let's try gettin' it" and then left until next week, hoping to have some rng luck.
I for instance stood at my house placard for 30 hours without sleeping, constantly clicking it, attempting to get it, fighting over it with 14 people who gave up midway, and I've spent probably over 50 hours fine-tuning the interior design to the point where I was satisfied.
Telling people who invest so much into something that they should just get rid off it is not only dismissive, it's also arrogant and condescending af.
The only self-centered thing here are people like you, who try to guilt players out of their house.

I couldn't agree more. Though it is a bit hard for me since FFXIV has become so embedded into my routine. However, I do believe a nice break is in order even though I am not feeling particularly burnt-out of the game. It's because I really want to immerse myself once again in the Metroid franchise, and it has been difficult trying to juggle both games with the limited playtime I have. So after I'm done with my current grind to upgrade DoH/DoL, Samus will be getting my undivided attention.
After all, they do say absense makes the heart grow fonder.

Gil is absolutely meaningless in this game. I have 400M. Getting back 80% from my house wouldn't even be 10% of that. Meanwhile, when I come back I can all but guarantee I'll never get another medium plot because after years upon years of a failed system, they still refuse to invest into instanced housing.
Nevertheless, I'm not looking to take a break from FFXIV. I want to actually play the game yet outside of Ultimate and logging Savage, I have very little in terms of content I haven't already completed. There simply isn't enough. It should speak volumes a third party website does more to keep the game alive than actual new content.

Even if the game is designed in such a way, saying it outright isn't a good look for the dev team or the company at large. Most companies want a growing and active population, and they will never tell its customers to go take a break.
