Nope. There are plenty Japanese anime/manga series I don't go out of my way to watch/read that have humorous themes.

The humor behind the concept of Jibaku Shōnen Hanako-kun (地縛少年花子くん) [Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun] was enough to steer me away from it, as an example.

The humor behind the concept of Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (陰の実力者になりたくて!) [The Eminence in Shadow] appealed to me. I started watching it as soon as I found out about the anime and have the translated manga volumes as well.

Majikku Kaito 1412 (まじっく快斗1412) [Magic Kaito 1412] sort of humor is easier to watch, understand and enjoy. Even for those of us in the West.

Hildibrand may appear to be 'cringe' to many North American or European tastes, but so is South Park.

Loporrits in the game are an echo of the Hummingways of Final Fantasy IV. Why are there rabbits on the moon? Because the Moon rabbit is part of the east asian mythic tradition. And we are on the moon.

The bunnies are not those of Watership Down, so why do you expect anything more of them than you do of Moogles [aka Light Entertainment]?

Different people enjoy different things, but dismissing something without understanding is a problem to be corrected.
