Spoilers incoming:
This game really doesn’t want to get any better, does it? Endwalker is full of flanderized and comedic content of low quality(just think back to Myths of the Realm in 6.3 and the obnoxious femroe), and it seems that the devs are eager to double down with each new patch. The peak of this type of content must be the loporrits, which managed to become old before their tribal quests that have been released today. Wasting an entire zone of their cheap antics and repeated bland carrot jokes, looking over their incompetence and tarnishing the atmosphere wasn’t enough, they had to partake in second part of Labyrinthos, have a few scenes in Garlemald , take part in the Hildibrand questline, the Omega: Beyond the rift quests, one of them plays a major role in the Omicron quests…They were all over the place.
Now we’ve come to their tribal quests and after thorough examination on garland tools database I see that this is more of the same. A questline that will enforce such hilarious jokes as “carrots, carrots, and more carrots” and suggesting to the Warrior of Light that they should rename themselves to “craftingway”. Thankfully, the dreaded Puddingway did not have a major role as it seems even the writers have some limit to the cringe they insert into their quests.
Their attempt to tell a touching story with the loporrit who feels lost due to never being able to fulfill his purpose as a councilor to people of the star is rushed and culminates in the most bland ending possible, sending a ‘feel good’ message about how loporrits were lost and sad because of their lost purpose, but now they dared to dream again and that they want people of the star to know that they are not alone. Yet it becomes rather stupid with the reactions that are presented by the next quest.
This is the the councilor loporrit in question talking, except the quoted parts
“Ah, well met! Can I help you with anything this evening?
For me? From persons of Etheirys? Oh, I hope I didn't say something to offend them...
The first is from a Garlean refugee... “I miss my homeland dearly, but your voice reminded me that even here, I'm not alone. Thank you for lifting my spirits.”
And this one appears to have been written by a child's paw...
(-Child's Letter-)Dear Radio Loppit,
How did you learn to talk like people? You are very good. I want to be a radio when I grow up too!
Love, Me
...They really are listening.”
That a garlean refugee would react in such a way seems played up, the tragedy their suffered is incomparable with loporrits and there is no way such empty message about dreams and hopes would have any effects on the people whose entire homeland and most of their race has been annihilated. It’s like comparing one person breaking a nail to another one seeing their entire family murdered before them. SE continues to apply kids’ book logic to stories that are supposedly serious.
Speaking of other elements, what’s up with the relic quests? People have complained about how lackluster it is in terms of gameplay, but I’m blinking at how cheap it is in terms of story and lore compared to any other relic chain. It’s just one silly scene of Godbert and Gerolt in Radz, no development, nothing interesting whatsoever, just dumb gags and bam, there’s your weapon. Whatever this is, it seems that either SE had scrapped their initial plans for the relic quest chain and replaced it with this filler crutch and tied it to Hildibrand quests so it has any story and lore relevance at all. An absolute disgrace
The last thing I will touch on is the absolute cringe fest that was the Tweetingway day yesterday. The culmination of “Omg so randum” humor, cringe renditions of the songs, played up excitement, and pretending to be “cutesy”. This is something children in kindergarten would enjoy and even so I doubt about that. Defenders of such displays like to accuse the protesters of having no sense of humor, but I am more inclined to believe we just have a better taste in humor. There was also a tweet where whoever larped as a rabbit said he had a soul. This makes no sense, considering that loporrits are arcane entities and should not have souls by any reasonable metric. This of course, was left unexplained and seems like something EN team is doing while others manage to remain stable and not drown in the depths of cringe, there’s something to be said about how some people need to stay in line.
Yet another patch of running this game to the ground and turning a good setting into cheap book for kids where all issues are simplified and the core of the story is based around empty platitudes and “feel good messages”. Shame, before 6.3 I believed this game could be saved, but the last few patches starting from 6.25 were an absolute disaster.
