What? I mean you are joking - But usually when the MMO turns into an AFK Chatroom and nobody runs content, it starts to die. That's the sign of a game that just has it's skeleton core players sticking around because their friends still login as if it's an AOL Chatroom.

WoW MSQ/Questing is objectively better at basically everything except for the actual writing. Which.. After Endwalker. I don't even know anymore.

A.) Your chatroom analogy seems very random given how it doesn't describe FFXIV. At all. Heck, I pick very specific raids to run because I enjoy them, and they still pop within a couple minutes. People are grouping up to do things all the time.

B.) The word "objectively" doesn't apply to anything we're talking about here, which is pure opinion. My opinion? WoW MSQ is absolutely terrible - "objectively" - and far, far, far, far, far worse than FFXIV. Heck, it's the enjoyment of the MSQ design and the story itself that made me leave WoW behind completely in Shadowlands and make FFXIV my main MMO. And the actual writing in EW? Right on par with ShB, both of which I found awesome and thoroughly enjoyable.

Nah, XIV is known as the Chatroom MMO with how content drip and housing works. The community prides itself in how unrepeatable the casual content is so they can sit around or play other games. It's basically the meme at this point.

As far as the WoW MSQ being objectively better - It's just because it has actual VA, diverse RPG paths, actual rewards, skippable areas, and better mechanics. Like I said, you can say the writing in XIV is better, but the actual MSQ pacing and engagement in WoW is just more fun as a game. That's coming from an FF vet, I just find WoW's casual MSQ more engaging. That and you can actually play it coop. So yes, it's objectively better.

Now if you took all of those same mechanics, VA, rewards, different paths, and you gave that to FFXIV - Then XIV's MSQ would be unbeatable in every aspect. I can watch the XIV story on Youtube, but I'm here to play a game.

Even the writing is debatable outside of the MSQ. When it comes to just the main story then yes, XIV absolutely wins, but the MSQ is not everything. The side quests are often just as much throwaway nonsense as WoW's are, with a few outstanding ones that both games have.


I'd even argue that for as much crap as ARR gets, it's side quests were often superior to anything that we get now. Granted side quests in XIV were always weird since they barely give any exp and are therefore terrible to level with, but ARR's side quests were often chains that sent you through the entire zone while trying to tell a mini story.

Then the NPC claims that it would have been impossible without the WoL, even though the search ended within shouting distance, and it wouldn't have required that shouting to be all that loud.

Funny enough, I actually liked a lot of the side stories during EW over the EW msq. The current MSQ is whatever, but I can't wait for 6.4 and Pandemonium's conclusion! Even Realm of the Gods feels like what I wanted out of EW over EW's msq.

I didn't count Pandaemonium or Myths of the Realm as side quests in this case, for me they're in the category of raid and alliance quests. When I'm talking about side quests I mean specifically the normal gold quests.

In ARR you had quite a few of them that turned out to be "special" quests with no indicator, I just recently did a quest chain that unlocked a triple triad NPC and gave me a cactuar minion. There's the post moogle questline which gives you a hat, the one for the star-spangled subligar and the riddle quest.

There's also the one side quest in Stormblood that gives you the head bandage glamour item.

I do them simply because my ocd can't handle all those quest markers on the map

Some times the stories are nice, but mostly its forgetable

I'm excited about a new deep dungeon because deep dungeons are my favourite content in the game. I agree about the rest of what's on offer lately being lacking, though. And the thought that it might be due to this game's resources being diverted to a game that doesn't appeal to me at all (namely, FFXVI) is more than a little troubling. At this point, I am actively scanning around for other MMO's I can play with my gf.
