Considering it seems like Fantasia is mostly used for race and gender changes, SE wouldn't be losing much revenue by adding options to at least change skin tone and eye color to the Aesthetician if not also face shape. Those who are constantly race changing will continue to need Fantasias for that addiction.

The whole Hrothgar being an issue because of things being implemented through the face and skin color settings that are Aesthetician-able settings for other races, is something I think everyone can agree on.

One of the reasons Hrothgar are so vanishingly rare, I expect, is not only that they are new (I think free trials for instance can use Au Ra but you have to be a paid account and own Shadowbringers to make a Hrothgar? Most MMO races with such an upfront requirement will be similarly rare. Except Blood Elves in WoW, which are probably the only really notable exception) but precisely because of the fact that you create or Fantasia to one with the understanding that you will probably need to buy Fantasia to tweak your appearance where other choices can do it for 2000 gil.

It will only become even starker if female Hrothgar have fewer such restrictions when they release (and I expect that this will in fact be the case, especially if the dimorphism is similar to the Ronso from FFX that they're clearly inspired by).

I think you should be able to change what is reasonable to change at the aesthetician. Things like height, gender, race, etc. should require a fantasia. However, things like skin tone and eye color are acceptable because we have ways to do that irl. These are also subtle changes that your friends online would have to be very perceptive to notice you changed, and are not worth the cost of a fantasia.

Idiots opened that door. It'll never close again, ever. Now off you pop and buy a Phantasia like a good little customer. Did I mention we have a literal whale for sale? lol

That's (mostly) not the case anymore. You can now change between the hairstyles that share the same face and the universal hairstyles being added on periodically through the aesthetician. I think they have like, 12 hairstyles currently available? and at this rate, it's likely Hrothgars will have all hairstyles unlocked by around 7.3 or 7.4 - no idea about Hrothgals though.

That said, each face still has 2 exclusive hairstyles which would require Fantasia, but I doubt most people would want to change their face just for a hairstyle.

so apparently the only option that doesn't "stress the newbies" is either pressing 1211111111, or do nothing at all.

Only semi related to the purpose of the topic but I'd really like an option to skip the cutscene.
