That's fine and all but there are people that would really love to play a Scythe-style DPS class but just get turned off by the way the class plays. It's the same process as someone trying out a healer class. If I enjoy healing in an MMO, why do the healing aspect of these classes in this game feel so lackluster?

That is unfortunately going to be the way with every class. They will never be able to get a playstyle or Job that is universally loved, no matter how much they rejig, buff or nerf them. There will always be someone who wants to heal, tank or poke things with a spear that dislikes what the game offers. If another game provides a more favourable experience then thats great, but it would be boring if ever MMO had the same style of gameplay. Constructive criticism should always be given yes, but sometimes a personal preference is a subjective matter.

And that's the unfortunate catch-22 in FF14 and really most games. Is there a way to make every class fun for everyone? ...Sort of, you can introduce the whole skill-tree or cross classing to add more flair to the base class to customize the user's experience. However that comes at the cost of balance. And complexity.

Giving someone 5 different options for a melee style dps is a lot simpler to maintain and balance than five classes having a branching skill tree (or all sharing the same skill tree).
It CAN be done and has in several games, but the amount of resources to invest in it usually isn't worth trying to keep everybody happy.

That's exactly one of the problems we currently have though. They seem to be trying real hard to make every job appeal to everyone, making it worse in the process.

You can have classes/jobs with broader appeal without them being dumbed down.
Right now it’s dumbed down across the board for the 2min burst meta.

    Mature and correct analysis.

    .

    Good all around.

It's unfortunate that some people may want a Job with this aesthetic that has a different playstyle, but there are people that maybe like GNB or MCH's aesthetic but don't like their hectic pace. It's the price we pay, in the end, to have Jobs that aren't all the same but for visual effects. In the end, we play the ones that either appeal to us aesthetically or mechanically, and if one appeals in one of those ways but not the other, we make a judgement call on which is more important to us.

Not every Job can be high skill ceiling, galaxy brain, complex, and hectic, because then there won't be Jobs for people that don't like that and the game will suffer when lots of players leave, just as it would if every Job was made low skill ceiling, simple, and relaxed. So in the end, it's healthy for the game to have some one each. I think one of the Dev design goals has long been to have at least one easy Job in each category, and the other Melee Jobs largely AREN'T easy. So instead of doing a SMN to Melee and reworking one into being simple, they added a new one to be the simple one. (Granted, we'll see what 7.0 has in store for DRG...)
