Separate Au Ra horns from Face

While this is something I wholeheartedly support, I wonder how feasible it is, I wonder if the horns are baked onto the model in such a way that separating them would be too much... I mean we still have one and a half incomplete races in the game.

No more feasible as it is to giving viera & hrothgar copy+paste hairs & fixing hroth ears

It be nice to have an option to pick the horns you want and a slider on the size of the horns.

i think we just need a character creation overhaul that allows more customization, esp with features across faces TvT
including au'ra having whatever horns they want on whichever face
and the eyes they want on whichever face
and
nose
and
face texture..........???? looks at highlanders
and just everything ig

The entire character creator could use an overhaul at this point though.

It's incredibly dated; probably one of the more outdated ones in an MMO but I can't speak for 100% certainty.
I know WoW is updating their character options & GW2 certainly has to a degree

It would be nice if FFXIV would catch up

WoW started updating theirs a while ago and they are still making regular additions to it. At this point the amount of available options is far and above anything the FF XIV CC has.

Even better is you can more or less redesign your character, with the exception of changing race, from the in game barber shop without using real money.

I wonder if they ever actually would (even if they could), since fantasias are most definitely their biggest earner.

Who knows. They may say it's not possible and then figure it out later or have the resources to do it later at least. But like you said, I'm pretty sure fantasias earn them quite a bit of extra income and why change the system if people are already using it.

The reason tails can be customized more than horns is likely because Au Ra are piggybacking off of the system that was already in place for Miqos, in fact I do believe Yugiri originally used a modified Miqo model initially because she was introduced before Au Ra were in the game, so it is probably less that they "take precedent", and more "it was easy to make this part work, the other part... not so much...".

Yep, Yugiri's model was a Miqo first before the Auri were finished (which is why she wasn't unmasked until 2.5 or whatever). iirc the horns being baked into faces was limitations on going hogwild with character creation and strains on systems loading everyone's character, but that was likely a ps3 limitation if I'm remembering. Especially in crowded areas, I can imagine some older systems or a ps3 really chugging along trying to load stuff, but with updated systems and such, it shouldn't be as big of a problem now.. hopefully if/when they upgrade character creation this can be addressed. I don't expect kmmo in-depth character creation, but I'd like more colours to play with, more face options, stuff like that. Maybe even the ability to have face makeup AND tattoos instead of choosing one or the other.
