And here we arrive at the crux of the matter. If someone has to fear telling a joke in the forums because they would be reported, why do they believe it's ok to do so in-game, where a much broader spectrum of players may encounter their attempts at humor. If the only "jokes" one can tell are decidedly offensive, why the whining about not being able to tell them in-game?

Here's a joke for you: Why did the chicken cross the road? Because the pedestrian bridge was closed.

Joke wasn’t funny. Figure someone who’s been telling them for years would be skillful. It also doesn’t make any sense. Crossing a bridge vs a road suggests different directions. You’d walk across a bridge suggesting it would run a similar path / direction as a road. Crossing a road suggests perpendicular.

Or your sense of what is humorous differs greatly from that of my [then] young children. Still, it's fair to say that I can write that joke in this forum without fear of anything beyond a 'bad at jokes' comment. The truly humorous jokes I may tell in company where I know the audience, might not be suitable for these forums or in-game. So I don't tell them.

If the jokes you tell in-game in the presence of strangers are jokes you would not write in the forums because of fear of being reported, perhaps they are jokes you should save for your In Real Life Friends outside of the game, outside of the forums.

Knowing your audience really is important. If you wanna be funny to other people you should consider what they'll find funny. Alternatively if you dont care about coming across as rude and people tell you you're rude instead of laughing about your joke then you kinda only have yourself to blame. I hear so much about telling people to get a thicker skin but rarely do I see it be applied to the people telling that kind of joke. Anyone with a thick skin would just be able to shrug it of if one of their jokes didnt land instead of whining about how you cant make jokes anymore.
