That's why I said feasible instead of possible. If they would have to rewrite the entire market system (which would be rather nice, in all honesty), they may decide it's not worth the time and effort.

This is no longer a game. It is a business.
It's still a game. It's just another condition of the game that affects the results you get, similar to selecting a piece of gear or materia for the impact the stats will have on your DPS.

Maybe it doesn't make sense to some but if u want to compete properly the tax makes a big difference, if u are selling high value items so u pay 50k per million, if u pay no tax its either u make an extra 50k or u can lower the price by an additional 50k without loss but the bots have to pay the tax... So u can still make a profit.

You make something then sell it... TBH if that isn't the absolute basic structure for Business then what is??

Not gonna say it was a stupid comment but it wasn't very smart either..

So, the game isn't a fantasy game anymore, it has become a Business. A Job.

Speaking as someone who has had jobs for close to 50 years now, that is so sad.

It's still a game for those who find that sort of thing fun. Tycoon games are popular with many and the market system ends up a Tycoon mini-game for those with that interest among others in gaming.

It also serves SE's purpose for whatever data partitioning they have for marketboard listings. That's why there's a varying tax structure - to encourage players to move retainers from the city database with the heavier loads to the ones that have lesser.

They would if the price with tax was reflected in the "sort by lowest" list. Instead, it is sorted by lowest price listed by the seller but without the tax included.

Buyer tax is a flat 5% now. There's no longer "tax relief" for making a purchase in the city state where the item is listed. It's only sellers that benefit from a discounted tax.

Though it would be a nice QoL feature for buyers if the buyer tax was automatically included in the displayed price since it is now static regardless of where purchased.

I generally check the price history of items and put items up around that even if I might be undercutted. There is a few items that struggle to sell, but most things I have listed DID sold even though it wasn't the most cheapest listing on the marketboard. The case is; they don't sell like hotcakes, and that patience has gave me my reward. I refrained from selling valuable goods at a dirt cheap price due to undercutting. A lot of people fall into this trap and lose out on a lot of gil. Just be reasonable with your prices and go do something else like a rolo if you need some quick gil.

This would just lead to more extreme undercutting.
If you have to commit to your listed price, you're not going to risk undercutting the current lowest listing by 1 gil when there's a very real chance you'll be undercut in a few minutes anyway.
May as well get ahead of the race to the bottom and place your item for sale 100k lower to start with.

Not everyone is trying to play the system, most people just want to get rid of their junk, and you only have 40 slots as standard, so you can't have these things lying around for weeks waiting to sell. Price low to get rid of them ASAP.

Good points. However, maybe that is exactly what we need.

People gather for the sake of gathering. Not because there is a "need" for some items. Some people craft even though the market is already inundated. Maybe they would spend some time seeing what is actually needed before spending their time on farming.

    The thing is, Greed.

That is why I undercut by a huge amount, I just don't care about draining players wallets dry, I like to make or gather or earn things, to sell at a price that I think is fair and affordable.

If you are having trouble selling something, you're asking too much if you keep getting undercut.
