Feel free to say "I told you so" when the time comes, but for now I'll stay healthily skeptical. Not because I don't trust them to release them in 7.0, but because I'm expecting it to come with caveats and a necklace of monkey paws around its neck.
It's the Letter from the Producer LXII.Don't quote this anywhere because I can't find the source atm but I swear I read somewhere that when they were planning on adding the last race in Shadowbringers they ran into a problem. The team really wanted to add in a more beastly race since they felt such an option was lacking at the time but they knew that players really wanted Viera. Hence the compromise we got of one gender of each race to try to please everyone which didn't work since people immediately protested the idea of only getting half of each race.
Some key paragraphs:
In a Fan Festival keynote speech, I stated that this will likely be the last time we add new playable races to FFXIV. To put it simply, a tremendous amount of time and resources are required to develop one.Since this may be the last time we add new races, we spent a long time deliberating which race would be the best addition. Fans worldwide have shown an overwhelming desire for FFXII’s Viera [...] and so we decided to try and satisfy their request in this expansion. The desire to please our fans is the primary reason behind this decision.[On Hrothgar] After seeing the positive reception of the Lupin characters we introduced in Stormblood, we concluded that, for the long-term health of FFXIV, it was important to implement a greater variety of character types beyond the traditionally beautiful in a future expansion. In truth, we had considered adding more beastly characters long before, and since this was possibly our last chance to do so, we decided that we should—much like we did with the Viera—in the interests of expanding the lore and the choices available to players.[We] felt that it was in the best interests of our players to try and satisfy both demands. We understood that some players would be upset if they were unable to use their preferred gender, but even so, after much internal discussion, we decided this approach was the best way to improve the overall game experience.
We could have decided to implement only male and female Viera, or only male and female Hrothgar. However, we instead went with an approach intended to expand the possibilities in multiple ways.
Aaah, thank you. I kept looking for news articles thinking I saw it on one and completely forgot past Letters. It's the Letter from the Producer LXII.
Sorry for the vent, but I need it, feel free to skip it.
Would really appreciate some news about Female Hrothgar this year. My hopes are so low that they will be revealed. Their radio silence makes me nervous that they will push it for 8.0 or later. They are already in the works so I don't get the lack of communication unless they can safely rely on the fact that now that the bun boys are out, we are in minority and can be categorised as not worth to deal with since there are so few of us, they could safely ignore us with little to no backlash. I am deeply disheartened.
I do want to believe that there is some good news and that we need to be patient, but I have been patient for more than 3 years. I have been patient even before SHB was out! That one day with enough patience I will get the chance to play as my favourite race in the FF universe, the Ronso. I loved the female Ronso of FFX and always wanted to play as one, in that game we can't, but in FFXIV we might.
We are so far removed from the Endwaler's launch that the teams "2 designs that they are still deciding between" (from the Live Letter from January last year). At this point, there should be at least 1 finalised concept art, and I would do anything to get to see it. Even if it's not what I would like them to be, it would be too late to change anyway. I don't want to have to wait another year for this, get my hopes up, just to end up disappointed. This "hype" that I am building for them for myself is not good. Cause I might get disappointed by a 7/10 when I was imagining a 9/10.
Anyway, just did a fan art of a Beastmaster female Hrothgar wielding a sword-whip. Hope you will enjoy it!

I just want them to stand up straight. While they're at it give Hrothgar an option to stand up straight as well.
Awwwwww Pip you look so beautiful in your avatar, that hair and the flower crown match perfectly
Unfortunately, I have pretty much adopted the mindset of "hope for the best, expect the worst" nowadays.
