I don't think Thancred would like the idea of something controlling him, he has a trauma of being controlled.

I think having a Voidsent is out of the question. Besides we have Zero already, they are trying to make everyone different while before we had 3 Arcanists.

Bingo! But even if she ends up not joining them, that doesn't necessarily open up positions for reapers with the Scions. I could also come up with counter arguments for each of the OPs cases:

    1. Thancred has already circumvented his inability to manipulate aether, and is one of the strongest among the Scions. He's also not a Garlean.

    2. The quest giver is based in Ul'dah. However, the reapers are based in Garlemald.

    3. While the rogue class stems down to his roots and he still exerts their methods from time to time particularly when infiltration is required, Thancred walks the path of protector/defender now. It is very fitting for him considering his fatherly demeanor, which is what he has always been known for. Forging pacts with voidscent seems more like a desperate measure that he would only take if it strengthened his ability to protect those he cares for.

    4. Possession, and being possessed is more of a deterrent for someone like Thancred. Not motivation.

Furthermore on possession, I find it odd that it's called that if the reaper maintains control. That's not how possession works. While I don't play reaper or ever really plan to, it seems to me that the avatar augments the reaper's abilities through binding themselves to their master rather than outright possessing them. How Zero describes her pact with Zenos makes a strong case for this. That neither here or there though. Just an observation.

I highly recommend you just go through the Reaper story, the antagonist reveled in its power became greedy and the Voidsent merged with him over the years and took control assuming the identity of the antagonist..
If the host isn't strong enough, the Voidsent can take over and this goes back to the topic of Thancred not liking the thought of having a being that can take over him if that said Voidsent becomes too powerful.

I'll have to take a pass, but that does make sense and now that you mention it I do recall hearing or reading how the avatar can take over fully. Considering how powerful the WoL and Zenos are, there aren't going to be too many, if any voidscent strong enough to take them over. Possession still involves a complete loss of control over one's body, though I do think the mind can still be intact, i.e. the one possessed still maintains their consciousness. While they do not have control over their motor skills, they can't do anything about it. Iirc this was the case with Thancred when possessed by Lahabrea, and all the more reason why he would reject any notion of being a reaper.

I agree with the Scions need to retire or at least take a break from them. What I don't agree with is going to other worlds. There are sections of our world we have yet to explore. Let us explore those instead of going to other shards again.

I rather they incorporate Zero into the next storyline. She already feels there's no point in going back to the Thirteenth as it's just a hostile void, so she could go along on our next journey as for something to do and learn about our world.

It's not like we'll be able to save the Void and turn it back into what it once was. We'll just save Azdaja and defeat the big baddy and that'll lead us to our 7.0 destination (I'm expecting we'll follow Azdaja to Meracydia).

No voidsent is going to enter into a compact with a mortal incapable of manipulating aether.

....The Garlean race's whole thing is that they can't manipulate aether. They invented the reaper arts.

The Scions, as characters, will not be retired until they die/are removed from the story by equitable event like Minfilia was. They've been written to be too important to just be casually thrown away and ignored like they don't exist now. I can see a new cast being introduced alongside them but anyone expecting next expansion to ditch the old squad entirely is pipe dreaming. We'll have like almost certainly 5/7 of old scions still present in the new squad, whatever it is, with maybe one or two being absent (most likely Thancred and Urianger, but potentially twins instead) and their spots being filled by Zero and Krile. Or something along those lines. Also, one of them gets a new job possibly.
