Don't you know? The Scions suck and they serve no purpose now.
Jokes aside they'll never fully retire them and even if they did folks would still complain about the new characters anyways

Thancred will become a Reaper, Urianger will become a Dancer who will always prioritize Thancred for his partner, Estinien becomes a White Mage, and Alphinaud becomes a Warrior. Meet your 7.0 cast, everyone!
Crackpot theory for sure. I think Zero becoming a permanent Scion is more likely than Thancred dropping the gunblade.
Exactly this. They can't remove/retire Thancred or change his class from Gunbreaker until/unless they give us another dedicated tank role support/trust character to take his place. They've painted themselves into a corner with regards to what they can do with the Scions at this point due to the support/trust system, unless they give us someone else in exchange.

I really have to agree with this point. It very much seems like the trust system makes it more difficult to swap cast members.Exactly this. This would be interesting.

I don't believe they will retire all Scions as part of the Trust for 7.0, but I strongly believe Thancred will be the first one to stay behind.
His arc has been over since 5.3. I can understand why they didn't change the group for Endwalker, since it was the end of a story they were in for from the start. Now the page is turning I do believe they will let one, two or maybe three of the original Scions leave the Trust roster to replace them with new ones. For sure Krile will replace someone. And while everyone keeps saying Zero will be in it, I have a suspicion she will not stick around after the current patch arc wraps up. Likewise I don't think Vrtra will stay in the party after his sister is rescued. He is, afterall, in a ruling position and treats Thavnair as his family so he can't play adventurer forever.

Why does Thancred need to be a Reaper when Zero could clearly join the Scions?
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
I think this might be the case, if my crackpot theory ever comes to pass. Y'shtola brought back her Conjury magicks in 6.1. Something I very much liked, as it made me think the Scions, whenever/whichever one pops up to join us on whatever journey we're on at the moment, could at least be allowed toswitch between two classes they either have extensive experience in already or a completely new job to shake things up.
doubt it. seems more likely Zero is becoming a permament member
