Retailers are physical locations. If people aren't showing up in the numbers they expected then they can clearly see whatever they're doing isn't working as intended. They also have paid advertisements on websites to aggregate information for them whereas the developers don't have that luxury. All they have is what people tell them.
Social media websites/platforms/YouTube literally do the same thing tho. Why do you think Facebook/Twitter changed so much? Part of it is users complaining, other part of it is because they know where to look in gauging user interest. Why did Google+ fail for example? Google sucks ass when it comes to user engagement, but you have to agree that Twitter/Facebook are experts at it for a reason. I use restaurants/retails because it's easy lmao. You can apply it online too because it requires the same amount of studying.

And yeah I am going to disregard it bcos at the minimum you and I don't have to be disagreeing at the same point, we're just talking in circles otherwise.
