Yet you've been one of the biggest opponents of this feature being implemented. A feature that only affects what is on a person's own PC in private. Does not compute.

What? You think that would upset/make people uncomfortable? Well, not so strange that there are players who feel uncomfortable around your atrocious skimpy or unfunny glamour now is it.
I'd love to see what these people would think if a N@zi glam existed and someone ran around on their screen with it. After all, they wouldn't be able to say anything about it since the person in that glam is just expressing themselves, right?

i mean, i feel like most of us would quit if they went and did that. i am surprised it took 85 pages at max posts per page to reach the ol' reducto ad hitlerum argument, though.

So you want to selectively edit what glamours appear on your screen because there are some that are distasteful to you. So you're in favor of this feature. Great!

not at all what i said, but thanks for playing. i'd quit the game if an official Nazi glam was in the game because it would be a pretty blatant signal that i would not be welcome as a queer person.

It is what you said. How do you know if someone was wearing it, they are wearing it to express hate? Maybe they just like the look. You can't derive motive from an outfit. The expression offends you, so you don't want to see it. However, if an outfit is extremely displeasing to my eyes, I'm told to grin and bear it because 'expression.'

Wearing a Nazi outfit for any reason other than "it's costuming for a film/theater" is always an expression of hate, and the fact you're trying to argue it isn't proves you have zero good-faith here.

:P Nazi Cosplay is a thing . . . it is really only hyper controversial, and heavily viewed as hate in the west. Not everywhere teaches the war as a battle of political ideologies but simply as a conventional war. So the hatred aspect is not shared across the world.

Regardless of the reason, you admitted you're for blocking expression you don't like. I guess it's only okay when you do it.

Except it wouldn't have to be private anymore. They could freely post photos on the official forums of my character forced into different outfits than what I would ever have them wear, talk to me in game how they forced my character to look, and it would be supported. That's the difference between mods and in-game options that the dev's approved of.

One is easy to ignore since it will never affect me. The other isn't and contrary to what an MMO even is when it comes to official in-game options.

MMOs have always been about seeing other players online as they decided to create and dress their characters. Stop trying to pretend it's normal in MMOs to control how characters not played by YOU should be forced to appear. The moment players lose control over their own characters is the day you see a lot of players quit that MMO. It's why no MMO does this and never will. And don't bring up GW2 again, it's by no means a glamor setting. Putting characters into "lowest quality character models" is about performance for computers that aren't supposed by FFXIV at all and never will be. I'm really tired of repeating myself when someone tries to lie and pretend GW2 has this option already.

Given I still believe an option like this will never exist, I have no idea why I keep coming back to this thread.

I believe you have also used "this is an MMO" as a reason why this feature shouldn't exist.
Yes it is, and it's how it should be. You either want to choose to play the product offered (an MMO) with all the things that comes with as far as how that genre works, or you can leave. *shrug* Not seeing the issue here nor do I view this as a bad thing. I see in the last few pages some whackos even stooped to the level of asking for all other players to be removed entirely. In an MMO. Clearly some people have very poor understanding of the genre they are in. I don't think a SOCIAL genre should cater to the very off-genre demands of people with antisocial tendencies and personality disorders.

I really do not see someone walking up to another person be like "yo guess what . . . I can see your character unglamed, and you LOOK BUSTED!" With that being said question in a hypothetical world what if the toggle served as a model swap so in practice no aspect of your designed character was seen? Was just a generic NPC model in a black robe or something, only thing that may be relatable is the character name, race, and gender. Even those could be adjusted if need be? Would that still pose an issue for you? I am sorry no matter how you frame it, it seems at the core your issue is people will not see you. Which is weird to many of us clearly, and you really have not broken down why you have this desire to be seen in a certain way by others especially to others that clearly do not have any desire to see your character for whatever reason. Yet you say we that want this feature are trying to make the other side conform to our ideals. The other side is not taking away your ability to express yourself, only thing you can really argue is this is taking your ability to be seen, but is that really the point of glam? For me glam has always been about making my character look cool to me and me alone. Idc how people view of think of my character, it is not important to me. Guess my question is why is it so important to you? It seems like a stance that stems from so deep rooted form of social appetence or validation idk. Just no one has really been able to explain why someone has to be seen by others outside of the simple desire to be noticed. If that is the case the feature would not detract from that outside of niche situations, you are free to think no one is using it and live in your world where people do see you. The only way the feature breaks that narrative is if you allow it. Someone talks to you about how busted your character looks, ignore them and move on.
