Version 2.0 of XIVLauncher came out in 2019 with the Dalamud API. Cactpot came out in 2017. Not "always the case". Also, we're not "other MMOs". Did you forget the past nine years where it wasn't totally Gucci to run cheats in FFXIV?

Completely side pet-peeve here, but... "cactpot" is the Gold Saucer lottery game, while "cactbot" is the raid automation tool that is named in reference to the former.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

You also forget that not every piece of third party tool has the same evil as the ones you think.

Shaders are greenlit because you're not altering anything in the game.
Discuss it however you see fit, but parsers are a gray area where the only evil is something that IS reported.
Then you have plug-ins that are objectively a red area.

Also, I really don't care whether we are like other MMOs or not? One thing is that our ToS saying that and however it's enforced. Did you know that GW2's ToS also says "No third party tools", and the ones that are out there specifically say that they're technically not legal but nothing happens to you if you keep quiet? HMM, SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A CERTAIN LAUNCHER NOW DOESN'T IT?

So no, caffe. Unfortunately, we ARE like other MMOs. And it doesn't matter how we approach them or not, even if others were even more anal about this than FF14 is, someone somewhere would STILL make plugins for the game and circumvent it.

The point of what I said wasn't even "oh look, we're just like WoW, we NEED plugins". It's that other games have third party tools, FF14 isn't the only one where people stop functioning once plugins stop working. Every game out there is bound to have it, it's not a thing inherent to us. And it's definitely not something that comes up now.

You go as far back as 2017. I've been playing since 2016. I KNOW THAT xD The issue is that even in 2017, the people who did use plugins weren't reliant on them. THAT'S what I mean.
