Best part of a new patch? Third party tools not working.

The new 24man was so difficult I almost cried.

I did want to cry, because the server was VERY UNHAPPY when I first tried to queue into the new 24-man on Tuesday; it took our group a very long time to walk from spawn-in to the first boss arena because everyone was rubber-banding so badly, and no one could use any abilities. When someone decided to try to attempt to pull the boss anyway, it just was a stuttering slideshow of death... and anyone who tried to Return to Start was then trapped in an infinite black loading screen.

Second time I queued in was perfectly fine, but that first time was just PAAAAAIN. And definitely worth some weeping.

To be honest in our group we simply run with the policy "you can use it, but we don't recommend it" as I am calling for my group for one and we worry about overreliance on the tool. It slows improvement if used excessively.

That's more or less my stance as the person calling for my static. But I mean, I also try to encourage people not to rely on my callouts either.

If you rely on an automated tool to tell you the mechanics, that's not great. But if you rely on a non-automated tool (i.e., me) to tell you the mechanics, that's also not great. Sure, I'm still functional on patch days, but if I get laryngitis or have a family crisis and have to skip raid, you should be able to read the mechanics without me there.

I firmly believe that callouts -- whether human or automated -- should really only be a sanity-check on your own read of mechanics.

Your Operating System is third-party, please uninstall it.

Facetious joking aside, the operating system is not against TOS. It is listed in the system requirements for the game, which makes it part of the base required operating environment.

Moreover, keep in mind that the TOS forbids the use of unauthorized third-party tools. There are authorized third-party software, like that Embody surround sound add-on for the Windows edition. And for that matter, Nvidia Freestyle, Nvidia's equivalent of GShade... which has official, SQEX-blessed support for FFXIV. (Not that it would really matter if it didn't, since Freestyle happens at the driver level and, from FFXIV's point of view, is functionally indistinguishable from, say, Windows system-level monitor color calibration.)

Correct, which is why I adjust my callouts based on what we currently need and lower it to basics after we are good. In fact, the few things I still call when I do them wrong get counter-called, proving the awareness of my group members.

I'm honestly proud of them because of that.

Buddy of mine says he uses them because he can't be assed to remember 10 years worth of content, 100+ trials/dungeons/raids etc, especially in EX and above. He knew the mechanics when they were relevant but has since moved on to current stuff.

The callouts are just a little verbal thing that helps his brain remember. And you know what? I can't fault him for that. This game has a massive backlog of content that you could be thrown into if you do the roulettes regularly.

I think the point is that people want stuff to work out of the box. It's nice if some QoL gets implemented no matter how (looking at you, buff timers).

I just don't like the fact that you buy a game and then you are expected to download 10 add-ons or you are out. That's BS. I take whatever SE implements and may use the one that mustn't be named that starts with p when I play on PC but other than that I'm not going out of my way. I think how the other MMO does it is utterly ridiculous in that regard.

Players should not expect other players to download addons. But SE should also not expect players to not create and download addons that fix blatant mistakes and oversights in the game's design. QoL and common sense should be there from the beginning. Players shouldn't need an addon to put ears back on their Hrothgar. They shouldn't have needed an addon that stops the camera from spinning in Legacy mode and shows the length of people's buffs and debuffs. Why did it take 10 years to fix something like that? In base game we still cannot see the damage type of an attack being cast despite the fact that damage reduction abilities only work when used during the cast.

And players should not need an addon to fix the issue where lag prevents people from double or single weaving, that the devs don't even realise is an issue despite the threads about it and at least two addons that exist to fix the problem. SE even needed players to find what was wrong with the login queue at EW launch. The devs really need to take a hard look at the defects in their product, and luckily it seems like they are starting to do that.
