How exactly is "leaving things the way they are" dictating what people can and cannot do with their own devices?

I mean, do I really 'want' to see a dude in a tanga and cowboy boots and a hat running around in my dungeon? Nah. Do I care enough to want to exclude him from my view? No. It's simply not something that I think needs 'added to the game'. More ways of excluding others from the game are not a good thing, imo.
YMMV.

I'm not sure how people are getting excluded, but generally, yes, I agree with this. It's just an unnecessary dev attention that's better spent on something else. And again, if it's in the game, it's free to use.

Except it is exactly what you're saying.

There's nothing "dangerous" about people adjusting what is displayed on their screen through whatever means they see fit so long as it's only visible by them, which is what this feature would be. You're saying people shouldn't be allowed that option in the first place, both dictating what others can and cannot do and enforcing your own ideas of how people should look on others.

Right. As long as it only affects the user side and not how the game itself operates or other players, I see no reason why it should be an issue.

This is supposed to be an RPG. Your character is working and living in this fictional world. This is your character's life. In your life you don't get to decide what you see when you go out in the world, besides where you choose to go.

You also can't cast magic or teleport to other worlds (or in general) in your life either. This is a video game, customizing your experience is part and parcel.

There is customizing your experience like interface and such, but that is outside the game world. What you see in the world is part of how the rules of the world (and the game) work and you don't get God mode here. One of the reasons mods aren't sanctioned is to maintain a relatively consistent experience. Being able to constantly and consistently see through glamours breaks down important parts of the FFXIV lore. However, glamours can be dispelled within in canon. So how about we introduce that as a player spell and make a whole pvp thing out of it, with griefing and all. Honestly I'd be fine with that.
