FFXI was difficult on it's own, I saw full alliances wipe on gods back in 2009. XI was difficult and time consuming, in spite of what seem people seem to believe time consumption is a good thing, it keeps you from burning through the entire game's content in 5 minutes. People were getting all AF sets in 2 days, that's ridiculous.
Which is the bigger picture I'm getting at - FFXIV is neither challenging nor time-consuming.
