Endwalker is a new dawn in the expansion cycle as was A Realm Reborn in its time.

During A Realm Reborn the city of Ishgard sat on the horizon of the Coerthas like the morning sun, with the promise of the new days destination to come during Heavensward.



Now in Endwalker the new dawn, there is a new place with something sitting on the horizon like the morning sun



The hole of Etheirys sits on the horizon of Mare Lamentorum no mater the time of day, showing us a promise of the destination in the future expansion too.



One of the side stories dotted through shadowbringers was Limsa's move away from piracy to trade and maybe further exploration. sailing adventure here we come lol

My personal take away was we'll be circumnavigating Etheirys

There are a lot of things left undone and unseen.

but what of Meracydia or the new world?
before Zodiark was summoned into being the weak point for the endsingers song was the continent to the south assumed Meracydia .

krile and students of Baldesion are to have a bigger part in the next expansion, then a exploration voyage seems likely. It would also help to fix the gabbing comment of Emet's about how under traveled we are.

Also when thinking of sailing in final fantasy. I think FFX on the S.S. Liki and Sins fin,
It wound be fun to have a Kaiju enemy expansion
Maybe that will be our issue something rapped itself in a huge blasphemy maybe a voidsent.

The Golbez issue in the 6.x story will be rounded out he may invade the source on multiple points.
Having void gates pop up entry to domains all over older expansion zones is good reuse of those older zones
Seems Golbez will be killed in the end, but then you've still got those unaligned to Golbez voidsent like that Cloud of Darkness and those Voidsent of the void ark story, as well as possible new entries. Voidsent are opportunist there are bound to be a few that will likely want to step into take over Golbez's ground work in some way.

Yoshi himself however stated that there are no hints currently in the game's story as to how the next expansion is going to turn out story wise so I think we can't really read into anything with how things are right now (all we know is something world-shaking is going to happen that "will lead to new adventures" - taken from the Rising event earlier in the year and last year's New Year's message from Yoshi).

There is also the rest of Emet's 'list' of places we just have to visit though too, which presumedly will continue to play an important role in where we go (we've already now been to the first one; 'the ruins under the Bounty' - aka Alzadaal's Legacy), so it is likely we'll eventually end up in places like Meracydia, but how we'll get there and why, well, we'll find out soon enough.

I don't think its lazy I think the game originally being set in medieval Europe type of world creates a narrow view of the world. As we have continued our story the world has "expanded" that world. We know there are other continents we just have yet to explore them largely due to distance. It seems like a waste to just ignore them all. My guess is that between a whole world to explore and the ragnarok creating space travel we might get to explore our world first before improving upon the ragnarok and moving onto other ones. It would feel odd to explore other universes with out even knowing the map our whole planet.

Ilsabard sticks out like a sore thumb now that we have a full map of the three great continents, so I'd like to hope they intend to rectify that in the next expansion.

There's been a lot of vague somethings going on over there ever since the second civil war started, not least of which being the remaining legions who were stated as "waiting to see which way the winds blow" in the latest Tales from the Dawn.

Eorzea is the region that includes the continent of Aldenard (the land mass that hosts Ul'dah, Gridania, Ala Mhigo, Ishgard, and the abandoned Sharlayan) and the island of Vylbrand (off the coast of which is built Limsa Lominsa). That section of the map is complete.

Basically the map is 'complete' but there's areas we've not yet explored.
