It is incredibly likely they were looking to entice some players to 'complete' the ensemble by obtaining both.

What was the paired ensemble when we got the Polar Bear for Moonfire Faire?

Or, more controversially, when the Mogstation store brought out the Cruise Chaser mount. What in-game event did that pair with?

Is there communication between Business Units, or just simply within Square Enix as a whole? I suspect so. Did the developers tell the Mogstation store BU to create a matching glamour set appropriate for the Reindeer? I kinda doubt it.

Plus, big announcement here, and all, reindeer have been raised domestically for centuries in areas ranging from Scandinavia to China. They still are. It's a sub-Arctic thing, not a northwestern European thing.

Nah. I won't "defend" it; I just honestly couldn't care less about it. The cash shop in FFXIV isn't "in your face" in any way, so frankly I don't even realize there's anything I'm "missing out" on. Compare that to another game I'm playing at the moment - Destiny 2 - where every time you log in they display it front-and-center what the "exclusive" items are you can only get by purchasing with extra real-life money.

Instead of giving us exactly one chance to get it in-game then going to the cash shop, they are just putting it directly into the cash shop instead. What do we even pay a sub for, exactly?

At this point I'm getting tired of the FFXIV Dev Team's shenanigans, some transparency where that sub money is going needs to be answered.

It's going to fund FFXVI and various other SE games. FFXIV money is going towards other projects, primarily. Only a portion goes back into the game's own development.
