From a friend who had the same issue :
To fix the problem you need to go : Steam -> Settings -> In-Game -> Unlock "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game".

Thanks for sharing, perhaps this fixes it for some, but it doesn't fix it for me & not for many others, appreciate you dropping a comment nonetheless

Unfortunately neither of the aforementioned fixes helped in my case. Issues still persists. And on different PC machines with updated drivers, etc. As a matter of fact I had steam overlay disabled on every machine for FFXIV but enabling it didn't do a thing. Deleting Steam API files also didn't work.
