    Black screen after launching the game

    I logged into the game just fine yesterday. Now, after downloading the 6.2 patch, after clicking on "play", game launches, expands to fullscreen, but the screen stays black. When I click mouse button while on the black screen, the game closes and I have to re-start launcher, put in login details again, rinse and repeat. Is this happening to anyone else?

    EDIT: BEST TEMPORARY SOLUTION SO FAR THAT WORKS:

    1. Launch the game through Steam
    2. Log-in with your account details, but DO NOT press the Play button
    3. While the launcher is on the screen where you can see the Play button, launch the Task Manager, and end the Steam process
    4. After Steam has been forcibly closed, press Play
    5. The game should work as normal

    EDIT: PERMANENT FIX SO FAR THAT WORKS:

    Simply rename Steamclient64.dll in your STEAM installation folder to something else or remove it completely. Poof! - problem gone! We're not sure how that affect other applications but as far as FFXIV is concerned, no more black screen!

    I'm having the same problem with my game. I'm playing on a laptop with a Ryzen 7 and a 3060 GTX, on the steam version

    I've tried using DX9 instead of DX11 but the game won't launch. After enabling DX11 again the game runs just fine

    I have the same problem.
    I did already a complete game repair, same issue.
    If I run the launcher from the directory and use a non steam account it works. so it is related to the steam version...
    enabling and disabling steam overlay does not help either...
    reset of the game settings did not help neither...
    switching between DX9 and DX11 does not help in my case...

    I'd say check the drivers of the grafic card and windows update, but I don't know

    Yes, a steam version of the game... I'm guessing the issue we're having isn't very frequent otherwise there would be tons of other threads, let's hope for a fix some time soon

    I noticed when the latest update for nVidia was installed, I had a black screen that held for longer than it normally does. Once I logged in, I noticed that Direct Chat was enabled — I had to enable it, apply, disable it, apply, and restart the client.
