I have died a little so many times from watching DNC use step poorly. So much damage just offered up to empty space.

Man, you know what grinds my gears about DNC in general?

Watching them randomly pop improvisation for the full duration while the boss is just standing there looking cute and targettable, waiting to be hit with DNC's onion rings.

But nah, gotta build up those improv stacks and get a tiny regen/shield for a raid-wide aoe that isn't coming any time soon.

How do people feel about tanks not deliberately standing in stuff to complete a wipe and reset the boss when the healer dies (and the tank isn't WAR)? I'll humbly accept that on Anima (Tower of Babil) I was a bit too proud to fall over and kill myself when the healer died in the first few seconds - one DD died soon after, but the NIN stayed alive with me. We phased the boss, and NIN died to the claw that follows you around. And... I still refused to die. I was slowly regenerating health, I know the mechanics by heart so didn't have issues, but I could see the Chaos bar going up to the point that I knew I won't meet the DPS check. People released earlier, and it definitely took me an ice age... Is this something I shouldn't do?

I just ask in chat. Generally have the time between two mecanics. Problem solved.

When I'm a healer / dps and it's my tank who refuses to die, I encourage them.

... Before gently mocking them if they dare to die, of course.

If there's a DPS check then it's usually better to die and restart. I soloed the final boss of the ghimlyt dark up to the DPS check at the end but I completely forgot that it was there. I basically wasted the parties time over it sadly.

I'm of the opinion that if you have a first timer with you, then you should reset early and give them another chance(along with trying to help them), but most people will probably tell you to just get it over with.

Regardless of what you decide to do though your party should be okay with it, or at the least be quiet even if they aren't since they did die.

I think people in general think it's hype to see a tank either solo or duo the rest of the boss. I've had this happen multiple times and I have never heard anyone complain, they just emote and cheer for the tank usually. If someone has a problem, they can just leave the dungeon, that has happened as well.

The Dead Ends as a PLD.

BRD ends up getting hysteria debuff because healer doesn't stack with them, takes a hit. Begs healer to Esuna the doom. Dies because Healer didn't Esuna. Tells healer they have to Esuna the doom or they'll die. Healer later dies from damage. Healer apologizes because they weren't looking at chat when they are focused on avoiding damage.
Me just healing the MCH and thinking to myself "You probably could've saved yourself with Warden's Paean by dispelling the debuff yourself". We kill the boss and move on.

Next trash pull, and I realize it's not just me imagining it, I'm running quite low on cooldowns. The pull is just taking incredibly long for some reason. Then I realize BRD didn't apply songs in trash pull, only during bosses. No wonder.
Next boss, healer staggers a bit, runs to me, I run away to avoid clipping them with overlapping AoE. They stop midway in AoE, ended up dying, and then apologizing because their kid took their mouse. I ended up healing both DPS that fight.

Final boss, MCH & WHM got hit by a mechanic and gets really low with 1 vulnerability stack. I apply an Intervention on the MCH since the cast is about to go off and the healer healed themselves with Afflatus Solace + Regen and left the MCH alone.

MCH HP drops to like 13k, Second wind brings them up to around 20k, Knights Benediction JUST ticked in time as the AoE went off, healing them for 4k, and they had 180ish HP left after being hit. Besides that close shave, no one died in the final boss.

Having a tank that can double as a healer is really nice.

That's why I like WAR/PLD. Playing healers usually has me in the habit of playing as a healer when I'm tanking. I'm looking at health a lot so I'm always Covering/Intervention/etc...and usually faster than our healer responds.

I always run War when doing roulettes so I decided to run them as a pld. Is there a new meme where healers get upset if the pld heals themselves or others? In two of the roulettes one healer asked why I was spending time healing some of the pt instead of dpsing and the other time the healer shot off a comment of "hey pld, you don't need to heal..." before leaving the dungeon. Am I missing something or do people not expect plds to heal anymore? :/

You should only be healing if the healer is dead, or you know 100% that they won't be able to keep up with the healing required to keep everyone up.

Don't forget Aurora on GNB. Though it still requires the target to be able to dodge to receive the benefit of the regen...it's still a fairly decent healing tool.

PLD should never be casting clemency unless the healer is dead and you're preventing a wipe on a pull that can still succeed. You flat out do more damage than the healer (assuming no gear/skill discrepancies of course), which is what you should be focused on, and clemency eats up a bunch of MP that would otherwise go to your casting rotation. It sucks, I freaking love being able to be a backup healer, but that's not how this game is designed unfortunately.

Now if you're a GNB, that's a different story, but that's probably moreso that they don't always need aurora for themselves, and heart of corundum is an almost spammable get out of jail free card for a party member, and both abilities have the benefit of being OGCDs.
