I think that why SE hasn't released any new content only upgrades, and fixes because they are holding back for ps3 version + expansion. But we can all be wrong and maybe the formal team had almost nothing done lol.
Yeah, we shouldn't really worry about expansions so much just yet. FFXI was released in 2002 and one year later Rise of the Zilart was released in 2003. We have a little ways to go.
WoW was released in 2004 and the first expansion wasn't out until 2007. That is a pretty big gap!! xD
I'm expecting all of Eorzea that's currently on our maps to be open by the end of Fall/beginning of Winter, and that includes Dravania, Paglth'an, O'Ghomorro, Xelphatol, Gyr Abania, Ishgard, Sharlayan, and Ala Mhigo.
I'm expecting Beastmen(specifically sahagin, and kobolds) and other traditional Final Fantasy monsters(such as behemoths, mindflayers, tonberries, etc.) to be rolled out before year's end.
Naturally I'm expecting chocobos and airships to be introduced as transportation(as well as maybe those "chocobo-driven carriages).
More story arcs, potentially furthering the coming conflicts with Garlemaid or the tenuous relationships that each city-state has with the different beast tribes.
Finally, it'd be pretty strange if new classes, specifically Musketeer, Arcanist, and Shepard(maybe Mystic and Fencer) weren't introduced by year's end.
Whether or not this will be released on a disc, I can't say. I DO think however that all this stuff would come shortly before or at PS3 launch. Probably before in order to bring in hype for it.
Summoner or GTFO
WoW had massive content patches though, adding multiple raid and instance locations.Yeah, we shouldn't really worry about expansions so much just yet. FFXI was released in 2002 and one year later Rise of the Zilart was released in 2003. We have a little ways to go.

Good to see someone with imagination and strong evidence to come to conclusions.
Here are some crazy ones:
A new world map is revealed for the Garlean Empire side.
With three new starting cities for new playable races from the Empire side.
Faction Vs Faction content.
Oh and Triple Triad.
