Please allow us to buy 'X' Quantity of an item on Market Board

wouldn't it be just great for the buyer to determine how much of an item he wants while SE deals with the bots. Perfect world. The one we'll never have! Blizzard did it with Auction House in WoW and somehow it worked. They're using a system that somehow scans client inputs and flags the ones that are periodical. Cant remember what it was called, what I do remember tho is in the end there were NO bots in wow. They instead came up with boosting through content tho, but as far as the botting is concerned, it's a complete non-issue. I really wish SE had devs playing their game, after a few days it becomes painfully obvious and we all know nothing will be done no matter the reports. I would strongly favor a quantity tab on the MB. One can always dream!

Letting people buy from the market board in any quantity doesn't work for the same reason it doesn't work like that IRL. There's no benefit for the seller. People who sell in bulk do so for a reason. Be it giving people a deal for buying in bulk, or just trying to get stacks of items out of their inventories, sellers don't want to be left with extra leftover items either. Breaking stacks to buy in any quantity is great for buyers but terrible for sellers.

Imagine if a store was selling eggs by the dozen and you said "well I only need 4", left the other 8 eggs sitting on the shelf, and told the store owner "at least you sold 4." Would he be happy about the sale, or would he kick you out of his store and tell you not to come back?

Imagine a "Request and Fulfill" option on Market Board in a tab.
Say, I requested 3x White Oak Lumber for 500 Gil a piece, another person can come along and fulfil that order and you get the item/s, they get the gil (with usual 5% fee) and both walk away happy without buying 99 of item and then reselling what you don't need.
Ofc, that 500 Gil per White Oak Lumber is bigger than 350 Gil it sells for normally (depending on server)

I would vote against this.

lets say I have 20 different items up, in stacks of 99. someone buys 3 of something. I still have 20 things up, and have to waiting until someone else comes along before I can list anything else. what happens is then you have partial stacks of things lingering around. given how resources are priced, then you have people, such as myself, who want a full stack, and one extra gil means I would buy a full stack instead of partials if I am on a crafting run.

I think the process would cause more issues than what it solves.

What do you mean no benefit to the seller? Of course there's benefit to me. I've achieved a sale faster. The full stack itself potentially would sell even faster as it was split between multiple buyers.

Trying to make the real life comparison doesn't work well. In case you haven't noticed, items are generally available in multiple packages of different quantities. They aren't selling in large quantities because they're trying to force consumers to buy more than needed to clear out their stockpiles. They're selling in large quantities because research and experience over time has show those are the quantities consumers prefer to buy at one time.

There's also a very big difference between real goods and virtual goods. Virtual goods aren't subject to harm if you take only part of "package". Real goods can be due to the additional handling and the disruption of packaging that may be designed to protect the goods.

Leave it be. People can DC travel to find a smaller stack for sale if that is their prerogative. In my opinion, it is perfectly reasonable to have the following listed on the MB:

Chondrite Ingot x99 900 each 89100 total
Chondrite Ingot x20 1200 each 24000 total
Chondrite Ingot x1 5000 each 5000 total

Each slot on your retainer has an opportunity cost. If a player only needs that 1 ingot, they can either pay that price for 1, craft it themselves, or buy the 20 and resell the 19 in smaller stacks. And possibly earn more than they spent on the 20.

I'm with the OP on this one. The way FF14 handles this is antiquated and dumb. It is the only MMO still in existence that I've played that does this. I'm more of a seller than a buyer. My biggest issue is that I only have 40 slots (on retainers) that I can sell stuff. I already don't have enough spaces to sell stuff. Now I have to split things into multiples that I think someone will buy. That's more work, more space I don't have, and more time. It amazes me that anyone would argue for the current system.

A lot of the time large stack sales are items that are used in many recipes, levelling, or are base incredients crafters use a lot. Like, who buys 10 Alumen? If you're a leatherworker you need a ton of the stuff.

Also, there are usually smaller quantities of most items on the boards, particularly at peak times. Its quite rare not to have buying options.

You're running off the assumption that everyone is a bulk crafter. The majority of crafters aren't.

Who buys 10 Alumen? I do on occasion. Low level leather isn't needed for the items I sell in my market niches but occasionally I will have reason to make something that requires it. I'm not interested in buying a stack of 99 if all I need to make is 8 Toad Leather. I will buy that stack of 10, though.

There have been times I've gone ahead and gathered that 8 Alumen myself because there weren't enough small stacks available to create the amount I needed or what was there was listed at ridiculous prices.

Here's what the buik sellers are overlooking - even if some buyers will only buy partial stacks, the bulk buyers are still going to come along to buy up the rest plus more. When I'm on a bulk buying spree, I'm going after multiple stacks and I'll buy up stacks both small and large. You won't be losing out on sales. If anything you'll be gaining them by making it more convenient for the small stack buyers to buy off the marketboard over gathering/making the item themselves.

The ones who would start missing out on sales are those who sell the short stacks at high prices and almost none of them have been complaining in this thread about the potential loss of income.
