December 2020 is very recent considering this is an old MMO where player churn wouldn't be anywhere near what it would be at the start. A game this age just doesn't magically lose a whopping number of players. We know that the game isn't losing a whopping number of players because they are still investing in paid expansions. If they lose 50% of players in 2-years, the company would be winding up. Not releasing regular updates and expansions, with a console version planned.

But, if you really care, the player base is probably on the rise. April 2022 was the highest the player count for LOTRO had hit in 10 years on Steam. Since most players are away from Steam, we can also assume that the number rose there too. Here:

So, my 86,000 or something may actually be a bit on the lower side of things, since the game has gained players since that 100,000 count.

(and now I bet you are gonna say something like "BUT MOST PEOPLE USE STEAM") but that isn't the case with games like this. Same with Guild Wars 2. The player count on Steam is much lower than the real count (as with FF14 too).

What are you even talking about? Do you just pull stuff out of your rear end and hope it sticks? It doesn't have less than half the players it had for that event. It has 180 fewer. Are you awful at maths?
