Well, Materia still has thousands upon thousands of empty plots 4 months later. In Europe, Alpha has 3578 open plots, Raiden has 3619 open plots, Sagittarius has 4469 open plots, Phantom has 3428 open plots. (so that's about 15,000 open plots all up and that's what 2 months later?) In the USA, the 4 new servers each have 7200 plots and based on the relative quietness, I really don't expect them to fill up for months too.

    4 months? 2 months? Where's the stampede?

And importantly I did say "if there are thousands of empty plots then autodemo really doesn't need to be on." Once a physical data centre is down to 200 free plots, sure turn it on then.

SE don't need to favour players who won't move when there is an absolute glut of empty housing in all the physical DCs. (well, a few days more for NA, but you get the idea)

Dynamis might not fill up immediately as people will take their chances for Mediums and Larges first, and then the Smalls will start getting snatched up. No one will have an FC for 30 days for the first few lotteries so wards 1-12 will remain empty. I doubt the data center will remain dead like Materia, though, as people are still free to visit their friends with World Travel so they would be more inclined to move for a chance to get a house.

This is a terrible take, especially when Yoshi-P explicitly tells players that he expects them to sometimes take breaks.

Except we can't. Can't unsub. Can't stop logging in. Because if we do, we lose something that's functionally irreplaceable (good luck getting a new house, much less the house plot you had before). And you lose piles and piles of items that are actually literally irreplaceable (furnishings that were never put on the store, not that forking over RL cash is even a viable or acceptable solution). I took a break once and I lost about a billion gil worth of cherry trees. Never again, I guess.

Stop making excuses for this pile of poop. It's shameful.

Can't believe we're still arguing over this. It's not the player's fault that the supply of houses is so limited. It's SE's. Player's shouldn't suffer for their mistake.

Regarding housing back in ARR 2013/2014 whenever housing came out, wasn't it stated that housing would not be demolished or require a continuous sub, i am sure there was some intent?

I get the as-is state of affairs and the need I am just seeking to clarify the initial offering/intent.

Please don't do that. I'm very sorry that you can't get your house, and I hope that changes in the future, but do NOT act like clicking the placard was better, because it wasn't.

I can't believe I have to post this every time someone has an issue with lottery.

Yes, you're right about it being a flawed system

    But f*ck placard spam.
Placard spam was abominable, it just encouraged bots. at least bots can't really ruin a lottery beyond making more accounts

It's not a mistake. Its an intentional design decision to make housing limited in wards for a "neighborhood feel". What is a mistake is not re-opening up limited housing that is being held by inactive players..

Instanced housing vs limited housing debates don't apply to what we should do about the system we have in place now that was intentionally designed this way. Since we have limited housing, we 100% should have some form of demolition on.

The houses were also FC only and they said that personal housing would be a completely different system. And then they opened the flood gates and opened the wards for personal housing.

The system was never meant to offer houses for everyone.

However, it were the players themself who demanded the auto-demolish, because of the short supply while houses of abandoned FCs and people who never came back were just sitting there, collecting dust.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

FC housing hit, players wanted player housing. They were loud about it. Demanded player housing. The devs wanted a different system but the amount of "WHERE'S MY PERSONAL HOUSING YOSHIDA" got loud enough they just released the system we have now instead of doing something different. Then, when FCs stopped playing and houses went unused by FC members for over a year because they stopped playing or quit, players started asking for auto-demos so it would free up unused plots so FCs and players could actually get a house. Originally, yes, Yoshida didn't want upkeep on them, but I don't think he or the other devs realized how popular it would get and they reversed their course when the players started asking for inactive, no one has logged in for over a year FCs/player houses to be demolished so active FCs/players could have a chance at housing and the benefits that came with that. Anything that has to do with housing past when it was originally released has been asked for by players, up to and including lotteries and only one house per server per account... not that they're super enforcing that one with the way people get around that loophole half the time.

I can agree that their window is pretty low and I would be fine with slightly longer auto-demo windows, but with the way the system is right now, it's a necessary evil until there's enough housing plots for everyone to have a house if they want (A house, not MANY houses.) Perhaps then they can adjust the window of time to be a little more lenient once there's enough houses for everyone, or if you want to demolish your house yourself due to quitting or moving servers, to get back what you spent on the house, in the event you're moving servers, especially.

That's what it was like at the time, yes. However, so many people complained about players owning houses and not logging in for extended periods (many months at a time while subbed, or even suspending their subs) that the demolition timer was implemented.
