I just did provide a proof, if you filter all information you do not wish to learn, it's your problem.
So far everyone agrees that difficulty is subjective and balancing around it is a terrible idea.
I'd say it's your turn to provide a proof to disproove difficulty is subjective.
I'm eager to read your answer.
I already have. Do I need to repeat running vs walking? Balancing around difficulty is proper balance. Just straight up factI just did provide a proof, if you filter all information you do not wish to learn, it's your problem.

how have the buffs been sofar? does it solve the ranged "damage taxes" enough? (by how much?)

DPS taxes should only be realistically based on their damage buffs to the party and perhaps the role they play. Sub roles like OP said. I guess the problem with MCH being selfish is that the gap between Phys. Ranged and BLM/SAM is pretty wide that seeing MCH do closer to their dmg is problematic, even if that's all they bring.
I think the tax issue really lies in how they calculate raid buffs vs selfish dmg. Back in SB, being selfish was bad, bring the rDPS and more. This is why DRG and NIN were up there.
Things changed and now selfish dps is on par and/or better.
No I don't think utility should be a reason to tax. SMN and RDM having rez doesn't mean anything past prog and the occasional death.
But IMO, they need to expand more on the combat that they've slowly striped away. Aggro management is gone, debuffs are a joke that's either insta death, one button cleansed or just a fight mechanic.
Aggro management was out of the hands of tanks who were penalized for garbage players that couldn't use aggro CDs. And welcome to how debuffs have been for longer than you've played the gameDPS taxes should only be realistically based on their damage buffs to the party and perhaps the role they play. SMN P7S reclear log
Definitely an improvement. I'm 500 DPS behind at 97th percentile versus 96th percentile. This also doesn't factor this group did not adjust rebuffs to be 1/3/5/7/9 so I desynced with buffs pass 6 minutes and I foolishly rushed my Ifrit which caused me to cast 2 extra Ruin III.
I'm still not super happy because there's still a significant 6% to 8% DPS difference between ranged & casters versus melee (with the exception of Black Mage of course because raise tax = 6% to 8% otherwise casters would be up there I guess). I don't feel they've been genuinely honest with us and they simply wrote a text and copy pasted it to every jobs they've increased potencies. They also used that excuse to buff Black Mage which they did need a buff but also completely avoids the ranged tax compared to everybody else which is madness. If anything, they should be around caster/ranged DPS level according to what they told us but that is simply not true.
Like, if the goal was to adjust the damage difference between melees and caster+ranged; I guess we'll have proper balance in 1 or 2 buffs. Personally, gameplay of Summoner is a huge issue and it's not gonna get fixed. I made my peace with it, I'd rather play boring no brain Red Mage over boring no flexibility no brain Summoner. Might be time to unsub and take a break also.
Faithful to SE, Machinist is still undesirable because it will never deal competitive DPS to Black Mage and Samurai and since Bard & Dancer has really high offensive support, they'll simply scale higher on the next tier making Machinist behind and have them get a buff to catch up when it doesn't matter.
