WoW is the go-to scapegoat.
Which is funny, considering that - especially now, having gotten into WoW thanks to a friend's recommendation - it's abundantly clear Yoshida 'saved' 1.0 by literally just copy-pasting a ton of things WoW did. Beyond simple "taking inspiration", just full on yanking out WoW systems (and somehow making them worse more often than not). This entire game was genuinely built as an attempted WoW clone in a FF skin, so people bringing WoW up as the big bad evil just makes me laugh nowadays.
Except it's not an outright WoW clone. There are significant differences between FFXIV and the WoW of 2012 (when FFXIV 1.0 was being burned down to be rebuilt into ARR).WoW is the go-to scapegoat.

Probably the most clonelike part would be tomestones = Valor Points/Justice Points. Valor Points would be the current Causality. Justice Points would be the current Astronomy. And I'm honestly glad they did it. I like knowing that even if I'm not getting lucky from the loot chests, I will be able to buy an item of my choice to fill in what I feel is my most pressing gear need.
WoW got rid of Justice Points in MoP, and phased out Valor Points over the course of that expansion to move into an entirely RNG based gearing system (since crafted and rep gear was useless). And players have hated it. Never knowing if they'll get what they need, losing their raid spots because they didn't get the right trinket drop but someone else did.
I know a lot of players find this gearing system boring but at least it means you don't have to worry about losing your raid spot because of simple RNG.
That's what MMO tribalism will do to a person, lmao. Just because you dared to say something negative about FFXIV, you're undeniably a hardcore supporter of a competing video game. You can't expect to reason with a person who thinks like that.
I personally don't like WoW, but I'm not sure why it's treated as some bogeyman. Why does being critical of SE make you a WoW shill? Perhaps I'm missing some context here but it seems really weird to just assume that not liking this change means you shill for WoW. From what I'm seeing here (again, might be missing context) Stormpeaks didn't even mention WoW so not sure why it's being brought up.Square Enix is a small indie company guys please understand, dont forget to keep buying items off the mog shop so you can fund the anti-RMT system that will never happen because its impossible to stop RMT, and please stay tuned for the next "fixes to RMT" that will only bother the players and not the RMT'ers.
