This change really sucks, as minions/emotes would be the things I'd be most likely to gift. And that's just me, this also messes with people who do giveaways and stuff, makes it way harder to just give stuff to random people. I'd have rather they spent some extra time to implement checks if the person has the item then just reactivating gifting in this state. Hopefully they walk this back or change it, at the very least I'd want to be able to gift one-time items. This might block some RMT, but I can also see it blocking a ton of actual, legit transactions as well.

I enjoyed gifting my friends mounts and never bought them outside of the Mog station. It's dumb I'm being punished for other people's actions. I can't imagine it would be all that difficult to track down who's buying mounts through shady means with the friend list requirement.

The reason for the block on mounts minions is not directly related to rmt. Its a result of the friend list requirement. The friend list req means you can only send it to that one person. And squeenix doesn't want people getting gifts of something that they might already have/can't use.

It's kinda silly. They could track that other ways if they wanted to but instead they just put a halt on it all

I understand how chargebacks could be the reason behind this decision but my company (also a game studio) found other ways to fight this problem (turned out to be very effective) rather than just disabling gifting of many items that are important to majority of community events in game. So this is not just a bad change for players, its for their business as well.

And the new rules won't prevent chargebacks. It just tracks them better. Which could be done with adjusting the code generation system if square really wanted to.

it says to refer to "Gifts for Friends Guidelines " but i can't find these anywhere? do you have to initiate a friend purchase to see them?

It's frustrating for me. My husband and I play this game together. When we get something new on the mogstation, we'll often gift something or the same thing to the other. So, like the new mount. My plan was to log into my account, buy it for myself, and then buy it again as a gift for my husband who in game has been my friend for 2041 days. Nope, not anymore. YOU CAN'T EVEN GIFT THE WEDDING ITEMS! 90% of the time I would buy whatever he wanted through my mogstation as a gift and give him the code. It was easier as we use one of my bank accounts for FFXIV. It's my name primarily on the bank account. It's my name on the bank cards since my hubby doesn't know how to budget. Honestly, they should have just made it so you could gift friends on your list, but not limit the items.

Anything that you pop and doesn't show in your inventory or puts other items in your inventory. But you can gift:
~Fantasias
~Outfits
~Housing items
~Dyes
~Story/Job/Retainers skips

Dude, i had purchased 2 gold plans right when they were on sale, and had the codes stored for whenever my character was big enough to marry my friend .. and are you telling me i cant give the code? no wayy.

Edit: It seems i can still use the codes i had purchased. Guess im one of the last few persons that can still trade a gold promise.

Listen..your game is amazing..I love it, but with all due respect.. this solves much less than it harms. Christmas is coming..we like to gift eachother mounts and emotes regularly in my friend group but no..this isn't allowed anymore..like..I could be wrong but I think I even read that you believe that the rmt will continue with this. If you just let me gift anything to my friends in this game..I will be silent but please return to the way things were 2 months ago until you can come up with an idea that actually helps and doesn't harm the community that likes to give gifts. Thanks for reading. Again, I love the game..I just hate the way you're doing this idea.

Nah, the code you purchased before this change should still be usable.

Just came here to echo my sentiments; This is an extremely disappointing and frustrating change. If they had come up with a different way around it, it would be fine, but now we don't have the option at all. Emotes is my go to for birthday gifts for my ffxiv friends, and I also sometimes host giveaways that include mounts. Now I can't.

SE, please reconsider your stance on this and come up with an alternative. I think you'll find you'll be losing a significant amount of legit transactions as well by blocking this option off entirely.
