Adding on to what azuri said: too many charge backs happening will make payment providers not want to make business with you at all. Certain services on the internet are struggling a lot with getting payment processors at all because of how much chargeback fraud is done to them.

This decision has been horrible. I share the point of view of others, it has completely destroyed not only FC events, but also the traditions I had with my friends of giving each other things at Christmas and on our birthdays, as we can't spend time together in real life due to distance and this game is something we love.

Also, the decision to have the friend choose which character to send is very ill-advised; in our case we are a group of role-playing friends and as such, we don't have just one character, we have several of them and it can be confusing to know which character to send it to, which totally ruins the surprise as they have to ask you beforehand. However, I can still tolerate the change that there are no more codes; but it really bothers me that I can't freely buy minions or mounts when I know my friends would love to have them and because of x or y, they can't afford them. Or for people who can't afford to buy a friend a €9 or €13 costume but could afford an emote and that would make their friends happy. It's just a bad decision, no matter how you look at it.

I just hope it doesn't also screw up the fact that I use my partner's credit card since I don't have one to buy stuff/pay sub because then I'll be really pissed off.

Be that as it may, I'd love to see this measure undone because it's totally punishing for players who buy things legally; while as you've all said, it doesn't solve the RMT problem at all.

It's amazing too because giveaways aren't RMT. No money, real or in-game, exchanges hands. Basically Squeenix had a BIG chunk of income there that they are no longer gonna get.

I don't get this choice. Like, yeah okay, we can assume that this wasn't easy for them to do either because it implies that they'll lose sales money. But surely there were other avenues before this became the one option to take? It looks like it was an extreme move from their part. Great that it might have an impact on RMT, but it definitely will have an impact on people that aren't engaging in RMT to begin with. Are the Visa charges really that high to warrant this?

Please allow us to gift emotes and mounts again. Get rid of codes, sure, but create a way we can gift emotes and mounts to friends (across regional logic centers too). I know the devs understand how important this game is to us, and how important friendships made through it are to us. And sometimes a gift through mog station is the most enjoyable thing we can share with our long distance friends. Especially during covid. I understand what they're trying to do, but I don't think they're fully considering how negatively this impacts players that buy gifts legit for the people they care about.

I know there's other things, but its easier for someone to accept an emote and it brighten their day, than any alternative I can think of. Anything else people may feel more guilt for accepting.

I need people to think about a person who has had a bad day, and is generally in a tight spot financially, but FFXIV is the only thing they have to socialize and be with loved ones, so they make sure they can pay the sub, but no way can they justify extra purchases. But they have a friend, who has a bit to spare, and knows they really love the new emote but would never buy it for themselves. Sending them the emote takes away a lot of guilt for the feel to need to reject the gift, vs sending any form of actual money (and im at a loss at the moment, of how to send money safely to someone I only know through the game). I refuse to believe others can't understand what I'm talking about.

Like to be clear, I think being able to make square mail the gift to your friend for you is way better than making them go through the hassle of typing in a code, I just want to be able to send them emotes and mounts too.

I've heard nothing of these supposed widespread scams. While I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm guessing this is just an excuse to crackdown on people giving away shop items for free.

Congratulations, Squeenix. I didn't you could make your cash shop suck more, but you proved me wrong.

They had an announcement a long time ago regarding the possibility of having your account punished for purchases made on 3rd party sites. People would buy up codes using stolen credit cards, sell them on ebay and then Square would be left dealing with the chargeback and a customer that thought their purchase was legit (or didn't care and just figured SE wouldn't bother). It's obviously continued so they needed to take further steps. As with others, I hope more items open back up to gifting. I'm sure they'll be looking at the feedback on this as well as the sales on items that are restricted from being gifted now.

No I definitely get it. I'm in a health crisis and home bound. This game is (currently) my main source of social interaction. I recently had a really bad backslide health wise and a friend sent me a code to cheer me up. It meant the world to me.

I got my chocobo carriage from Mr.Happy, one of the FFXIV content creators and my cruise chaser from another streamer. If people like Mr.Happy can't do giveaways of mounts and stuff from time to time, income was just lost and possibly viewer interest has reduced. The RMT/crimial activity will move onto things like fantasias and dyes which will eventually result in both being made untradeable, thus FURTHER hurting legimitate players. SE, please revisit this policy so people can gift minions/mounts again-even if it's restricted to say 7 codes in a week.

I enjoyed gifting my friends mounts and never bought them outside of the Mog station. It's dumb I'm being punished for other people's actions. I can't imagine it would be all that difficult to track down who's buying mounts through shady means with the friend list requirement.

Being shut out of the big payment providers like visa or mastercard would be a massive hit to any business. OnlyFans was on the verge of disallowing explicit content entirely on their platform because of pressure from payment service providers.
