Piggy backing:That's about all that's left in NA in any openly visual capacity, really. You either get nightclubs, or you get slice-of-life coffee shop/venue stuff. The latter is at least more often than not actual RP, but... for people who enjoy telling actual stories instead of having slice-of-life anime shenanigans, the RP scene in FFXIV has essentially died. You have to dig hard for FCs with actual plotlines going on and actual stories being crafted by DMs and their players. I've found a lot more storytelling RP going on in other MMOs nowadays than I have in FFXIV in a long time.
The cafe scene is lovely but I rarely see any open past the morning or afternoon anymore. Night is just dominated by clubs and casinos and brothels that I think they stopped trying to compete.

There were a few nice restaurant venues I and my friends would go to sometimes in the evenings, a couple years back - and a friend also ran a restaurant venue with his IRL wife for a while, before life stuff got too stressful and he had to pause for a bit. Don't know if any of them are still around or not, but I guarantee there are still some here and there... it's just impossible to compete with the multi-alt spam advertisements clogging up the PF. And yeah, I agree-- I loved a lot of the small cafes and restaurants that I got dragged to now and then! They're nice for just chill RP nights in between stuff, and the staff usually work pretty hard to ensure everyone's tended to and engaged. I used to work a restaurant venue on an alt way back, and I still work customer service IRL, so I know how hard that role can be even without the added roleplay aspect.
Just kind of unfortunate that actual storytelling and plotlines are so rare, and have more often than not (but especially lately) been an FC-exclusive deal rather than stuff you can stumble into out in the world. God knows I've been shocked to see big story events going on out in random corners of the world in ESO, or tournaments happening in WoW's Stormwind; FFXIV can make an RPer feel like those sorts of things aren't normal in the RP scene anymore, lol.

but isnt there a reason for it then?
I mean its not like cafes/restaurants etc died artifically, it just naturally happened.
like for those to exists, people need to be interested in doing them, and funny enough if all the people who complain about clubs in one way or another gathered up and made a cafe, they would have plenty of room to RP in that environment but I get a feeling most people just complain for the sake of complaining.

There's more money in nightclubs. *shrug*but isnt there a reason for it then?

Well yeah, but its more gill for people who're "employed" there, not neccesarily for people who go there (not counting giveaways they do which rewards one out of 100 goers), so earning gil isnt a motivation for most of people who go to those.
there're cafes too but a lot of people dont go to those because they're boring I guess?
and then again, people can have different motivations for what they want their "house" to be. if most people care about gil over RP or anything of sorts that's just a "it is what it is" moment, and it doesnt prevent a next guy in line from opening a cinema, theater, or cafe.
but like I said, most people just want to complain for the sake of it.
Ah yes, money and digital sex. Everything I wanted in my FFXIV adventure.

You are aware venues do giveaways for 10s-100s of millions of gil for their customers right? .....Well yeah, but its more gill for people who're "employed" there, not neccesarily for people who go there (not counting giveaways they do which rewards one out of 100 goers), so earning gil isnt a motivation for most of people who go to those.

What do you mean earning gil isn't a motivation for people who go there? XD
--------------------
As far as boring, I can counter that with standing around bees kneeing in the corner afk while hardly anyone talks around you is boring as well?
--------------------
I don't call it RP anymore, it's clubbing. That's all it is. Where is the RP when the room is silent outside of like two people at the bar while everyone else is afk?
-----------------------
If people wanna complain about the state of the RP scene, they're right to because it's a shell of its former self now. It's literally like trying to find a piece of hay in a pile of needles (and yes, I know I switched the original quote around) because hardly anyone actually does legit RP anymore. It's depressing because before covid hit, there were enough non-club venues to balance it out. Now it's just....pages and pages of afking to a random DJ.

and yeah people standing around /beekneeing is boring to me, but we're not talking about me here, we're talking about other people. but afaik people who stand afk dancing have conversations in /tell so maybe its not as boring for them.
and about last part, people can complain all they want but ultimately they're not doing anything to change the state of their complaint subject. like I said, no one's stopping anyone from opening a tea house or cafe or whatever.
you could do it for example, and there were quiet a few people who had interest in it, so they'd visit your place right? so what exactly is an issue, if the interest is there.
like clearly, there're plenty of people who want "cafe-RP hubs", I've even seen few of those in game, been in two, they exist, people just dont visit those as much, and then said people complain that "cafe RP is dead" which makes little sense to me.

It might be more of an NA problem but we definitely get 3+ ads on venues frequently with PF pages running into the 4+ range (at least on Aether). Since ours gets so long people feel a need to multi-post to keep their ads relevant and it also really makes it hard for any places that don't follow the same idea to thrive. I'll try to grab a screen sometime but not sure how much I can really show with needing to keep names and such hidden on here.I've never seen more than 2 adds for anything ever whatsoever, and even that is pretty rare even in peak hours.
that considering I use "other" field for my own add too so im there a lot. (Im advertising housing comissions, dont have anything to do clubs).
It sounds more like an excuse to me as to why certain venues arent popular. I mean you could have a cafe, advertise for it in PF and then once in a while in /yell or /shout whichever the orange letter one is, and ta-dam that's what most of the clubs do.
are there some bad apples that use yell more often than others? sure.
Is that the reason why cafes arent popular? not really, there's plenty of room for both.
