My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e. My story's infinite Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest- TMBG Birdhouse in your Soul
A huge THANK YOU!!!! For FINALLY selling the Meteor Survivor Polo on the store. AND a huge thanks to my friend who bought it for me while he was at Fan Fest!!! YES I finally have my POLO!!!
Already did that years ago. Wondered how they sleep that is. It's one of the things you shouldn't try to think about too deeply cause trying to rationalize that or how some of the clothes would actually have to be in order for some of the races to wear them will as you said make you go bonkers.
Oh, please. Sanity is overrated anyway. Or did you think prolific scholars like Y'shtola and Urianger were sane.
Oh, you poor, deluded Sun Seeker child.
Trying to figure out how their scales don't tear their clothing.
Could be wrong but I want to say their scales are supposed to be soft.
I recall word of god claiming that their scales/horns were flexible and thus probably more of a leathery texture/consistency like gator skin, which would be a lot more practical to live with.
A better question would be: How they are able to sleep?
No that's not a better question cause even if they just used a small block for their necks some horn designs would still be uncomfortable looking. Unless they're like cats and can sleep with their heads in what would seem is in am uncomfortable position. Even sleeping on their sides again due to horn shape might not be comfortable at least with most regular type of pillows.
Unfortunately for fans of realism, it seems that concept artists don't care about stuff like this when designing things. No that's not a better question cause even if they just used a small block for their necks some horn designs would still be uncomfortable looking. Unless they're like cats and can sleep with their heads in what would seem is in am uncomfortable position. Biologically, ears on the top of your head like a Viera don't make sense either because of how far they are from the brain steam. It only looks that way for rabbits and other mammals because of the way their skulls are shaped. Viera are designed that way because they were originally a fantasy race in a side game that was also the sole female representation (minus the main villain and another human from St. Ivalice) so they had to be skimpy and fanservicey, so bunny girls.
Looking at older Au Ra concept art where they have both ears and horns and the fact they were first introduced as mountain-dwelling warriors of Doma like oni makes me personally believe that they were meant to have normal ears but the people responsible for translating concept art to game models and/or the equipment modellers couldn't work around a race that had horns sticking out of the tops of their heads with the hats and helmets in the game (this was pre-Viera/Hrothgar) so they were like "oh, they have ear horns now".
I think the horns at least are hard and inflexible. They're described as being hollow and sounds vibrating inside of them is what allows them to hear so something like that would make more sense being solid. Especially since some Au Ra faces have the option to have metal fittings around and on them.
Really good responses here, and indeed my headcanon theory to keep my sanity is that most clothes/armor can be designed to accommodate their horns, but some of them are obviously not and it really really bothers my OCD.
As for getting through one horn and then the head with the other horn, I thought about this but it would still need one gap wide enough for the head, something that visibly it's just not here.
Interestingly I think sleep would not be an issue since they have a decent clearance at the back of their head, so sleeping on the back (or front for those with horns facing the back) would be feasible. As an added effect they would not need head pillows for those long voyages
