I think you didn't read my comment fully. Like I said, it's fine to give advice to noobs. It is even fine to give it after failing. But, again, like I said, I don't think it's nice or kind or considerate to give it without anyone asking. Or tying to stop people from playing after they all say yes on ready check (except for the mentor). Or just chatting and repeating the same thing over and over again. If it seems that people won't get it and keep losing and won't listen to what some, what seems to me, self-important player is saying, I think it's time for him to leave the trial and let others fail another 10+ times.

Some people probably also want to go blind into Extremes without knowing a thing about it and want to find out the mechanics themselves. They have every right to do so even if it seems frustrating to other players. That's what party finder is for. Pushing your advice is never good.

So. I've so had it with Extreme Trials always - ok, 60 % of the time - having some know-it-all mentor who just won't stop talking. I'm not there to talk, I'm there to play. I know there a new players but these chatterboxes start giving advice before anyone has even asked. And then they go on and on, explain everything once, twice, three time and when we finally get to play and die, they do it over again. So I start a ready check. Everybody is ready - except for you know who. So everybody would be willing to play instead of them. And when we go on, they keep chatting and saying "hey, let's discuss", "hey, can we communicate".

And then they put all these marks on the playing field, some are useful, most of them are not. Couple of times there have been so many marks A, B, C...Z that it's hard to see player characters or enemies from it. And then they explain to newcomers how if A, go to F, if B go to G unless A>B, then go to H.

I get it, if people say they want advice, you can give it. I can give it too, but I'm not pushing it onto them. If people fail, we can go through the mechanics but not spend 5-10 minutes on it everytime we're inbetween tries. I'm just there doing the damn book, please let me. And I'm in no rush, if it takes 10 tries for newcomers to get it, it's fine, been there. But it's the endless taaaaaalk that drives me crazy. And the markings.
Thanks for coming in here and explaining why mentors can never win and will always be the bad guy lol. They either are useless and NEVER HELP or, in your case, are know-it-alls that you never asked for help from. Use party finder already and you will never have to deal with a mentor in an extreme again.

And there really isn't anything inbetween?

    Like...
"Hey, if anyone wants help, let me know"
    Or
Not forcing your way of play onto others
    Or
Know when to stop talking (for example, when everybody else says "go" on ready check)

Unsolicited is unsolicited. Rude is rude.

If you are queueing up through the DF for Extreme or Savage fights, chances are pretty good that a Mentor will be there. They are there to do one thing, and that is to help you clear, and then get out like everyone else. So yeah, you will most likely be getting tips and advice about the fight in question. It is not rude. It is trying to be helpful. These are endgame instances for their respective expansions, and they are usually no joke. If you wanted a blind run, that was probably not the place to do so. I would suggest making a PF for your specific standards. People can and do join for that sort of thing.

Don’t join randoms that queued to actually clear and waste their time. At least one mentor WILL be queued with you in extremes if you go through duty finder, wanna know why? To help you clear. Mind boggling isn’t it? The nerve!

Just because someone explains mechanics doesn’t mean they have self importance, don’t mirror your own insecurities on them.

If they repeat the mechanics it’s because they are probably sick of dying to the same thing thanks to the same person.

Markings are also there for a reason, the reason is so you don’t run around like chickens with aoes under your feet killing the rest of the party.

YOU are in no rush, but you can’t expect that from the rest of the random party you know nothing about. Some people join to clear. Standing in their way because for some reason you like dying multiple times is what’s rude.

This may seem a stupid question, but what is this expectation that mentors are supposed to know every step of content (EX, Savage whatever) anyway? To me, Square is quite clear about what a mentor is supposed to provide:
    1. Provide gameplay advise for new adventurers and other players
    2. Be an exemplar for player etiquette
    3. Invite new adventures to the Novice Network, and answer their queries in the chat channel
I suppose you could argue the gameplay advise but, to me, that is more general - use your mitigations, don't stand in orange ground markers, do stand in good ground markers etc. Not specific "in this EX trial, this is what you need to do". Mentors are there to guide, encourage and promote good play. Not be teachers and walk others through specific mechanics of every single fight in the game.

As a mentor, it is usually expected that one knows a thing or two about the game, especially about the jobs they actively play or the content that they do. However, I think it is unreasonable to expect any mentor to know or remember literally everything about this game. That is where a lot of people are mistaken about the system. Heck, the requirements for becoming a mentor are pretty lax anyway. They should be higher or stricter, but it is what it is I guess. Mentors exist (or they should) to help others when they need it, but that doesn't mean that they will be able to help with literally everything. All some can do is show other players the way, or point them in the direction of someone or something that can actually help with a specific issue. Having impossibly high expectations is a community issue more than anything.

Today I learned that, if one of your co-healers has Judgement Nisi on in A4, it is possible to spread the debuff to everyone else in the party. Had I not seen it, I probably would've wiped the party to trying to precast Succor for the raidwide only to see everyone in the party with blue Nisi debuffs from my co-healer whm that stayed with the group.

I decided to keep my distance. Ain't going into that group that didn't wash their hands.

Titan EX, four mentors, all DPS. You can guess which four people died during every pull.
