There is only a handfull of people that think it is ok to have multiple houses and they all reside on this forum.

Removal of grandfathering and the likes would be a good thing, maybe a few people will be a bit off and the likes, but it say in the ToS... that gameplay may change over time as well as requirements to play the game, so yes they can do something about the problem and everyone has signed the Terms of Service to be able to play the game as well, so if they did not read it or the important parts of it, then they blindly signed something.

On Tonberry or in Materia? Dixie Bell had one on Materia before you took her back didn't she? She would have given that up for the move, but did you on your Visperia alt buy one in Materia, or did you have it before she moved back? Or does Dixie Bell have one on Tonberry now and you don't have one on Materia?

Not saying that disagree with people relinquishing housing but there are other things that need to be considered it not just the plots but the items in the plots. Those cannot be stored, and they can't be transfer easily to their main account. Even if they could it most likely that they would not have room due to limited space.

It would only enforce what is already in place but square enix has a fetish for the honor system and it never works.

And if tomorrow the rules forbid the first 5 things you do every day after logging on, even if you NEVER DID THOSE THINGS AGAIN, because you did them in the past, do you want to be punished for them?

I've got nothing against new rules.
I've got nothing against new rules being enforced going forward from the creation date.
You do NOT enforce a rule retroactively. Period.

You mean: A handful of people think it's not ok to retroactively punish people for gameplay that was not against the ToS. And they are certainly not all on this forum.

They are not being punished if they are being reimbursed and let's be honest, none of them are going to quit over it anyway.

Even if they did quit, it's still a net benefit overall for the game.

You joined the game late, just get an apartment and wait for next ward release.
Everything you said only makes sense to you but not others even if you are already an owner.
You may claim on a forum that you are willing to give up but for one you don’t represent other house owners
Even if SE compensated me with 500 million gils it would still be a punishment on someone who didn't break ToS.
Gils may mean something to you but as in game currency it has no value to old players.
