I know this is unrealistic but imagine if each job had a story episode with high production values. An army of dragoons defending Ishgard during the dragonsong war. Monks get a bigass temple perched atop a long flight of steps on a mountain.

Yeah that... its like, having an pretty awesome paining and then just draining half the color from it.. its like half an empty canvas with no flavor left ..Without job-specific quests, more than half the fun of getting a new job is gone. Leveling up one job is much like leveling up any other job if there aren't job-specific quests to look forward to.
As for quality - the role quests in EW were all pretty bland and same-y, so we got neither quality or quantity with them. The ShB role quests were a bit better, but not much.
And i wanna know what becomes of my blm lala and whm totally not a couple team Q_Q
...as someone who plays for the story and the lore, id love to have both, an role quest you can fill with any fitting job and some quests for the jobs to continue their stories...
(also... imma salty and say the do role quests so they never have to adjust a quest for jobchanges ever again lol)
Job quests where it says here is crystal here you go doesn't do it for me. Reaper doesn't tell you anything about Reapers just Garleans and you have no lore regarding your pact at all. You just fool around with Garlean Gangsters.
Your Sage Trainer isn't even a Sage. And I think the Sage capstone quest is the only good one and I'm pretty sure it doesn't go indepth about how Sage's work.
You got some jobs that are amazing like DRK while you get others like PLD which is more Gladiator then PLD.
They probably ran out of ideas with all the jobs.
I think DRK and BLU are my favorite job questlines.
You get Lore on where BLU's originated and you learn that pretty much anyone can be a BLU and that the Job Crystals are all fakes and that Derplander the legendary Gilseller is your class trainer.
I also have fond memories of the MCH questline being a bit of Pirate but also your gadgets and guns being used for Ishgard.
Plus with Role quests to unlock a specific quest they force you to level jobs you don't want to level so it's kinda garbage IMO.
Edit: I should also say that Estinien got to where he is today because of the DRG job questline so...
Its not forced, if its optional story content. I also would like to argue that stuff like that actually entices you to pick up other jobs in a game where thats heavily encouraged to do so.Job quests where it says here is crystal here you go doesn't do it for me. Ah but it was forced in Shadowbringers to progress MSQ. Also maybe you don't want to pick up other jobs because they just don't interest you or are boring to play. Enticing you to play other jobs to unlock a quest you can do on any job sounds forced to me.
And getting more lore regarding the Final Days should have been in the MSQ not relegated to a sidequest chain. Seems odd to me.
And if you only wanted to play crafter you have to progress the MSQ for that so that's forced in itself.
And there are a lot of whiners crying about Hildibrand being mandatory for relics now too so eh.

No it really wasnt, its not even remotely possible to proceed through the msq without already having a single job reach the level requirements for it. This isnt archaic 1.0 design where you could actually start off as a crafter or gather class and theoretically proceed through the game not even touching combat.Ah but it was forced in Shadowbringers to progress MSQ. If a job doesnt interest you despite the myriad optional incentives then thats absolutely fine. Nobody is making you to play jobs you dont want to do, if it means to just stick to one class in the game. However I dislike this "forced" argument that you and a lot of people seem to enjoy throwing out these days when it comes to criticizing content because if the game starts going down this path, then there wont be any tangible rewards for going out of your comfort zone or trying out new things. Why play other classes? Why do this kind of content? Why give out these rewards? Why even play this game?
Role quests on one class are required to progress in ShB. It's a fact. Crystal Tower is no longer optional. It's forced. This is a fact. If you want to do EW relic you have to do Hildibrand questline. This is a fact.
You can do your mental gymnastics however you want but the content is forced.
If you only want to craft you still have to progress MSQ. Very much forced.
Big story points in certain sidequests like Omega and Alpha and recently lore on the 4 fiends is mandatory if you want the full picture. It's pretty much forced.
Past sidequest chains alluded to the 13th. Guess where we are now. The 13th.
It all comes back to MSQ so yes in a way it's all forced one way or another.
------------------
That said. Role quests are worse then Job quests because the recent role quests have nothing to do with the jobs and have everything to do with select NPCs.
It's good for NPCs but bad for lore surrounding the jobs and feels lazy.

You're the one doing the mental gymnastics. By your logic, almost everything this game has in terms of content is apparently forced upon you.Role quests on one class are required to progress in ShB. Well i hear that story is over becaused surpassed u master. But that doesnt mean u journey is over. How about looking to refine u skill in other place other shares or past. Stundent becomes a mentor define and make the job better. What the points getting all this skill if u dont share them. Would make sense that WoL would teach people his skills. Or just go out in the world and try i dont to find u a place where the darkness flows more and medatete there and becomm a better drk Or do it like Dragon ball bring new stronger mentors. Like Dragoon could try to lean more skills from dragons etc make a dragon pet and train it and learn from it >O and later u fusion with it like Nidhogg and estinien.
Oiii SE if u need someone to comm up with story i can lmao
