Important aspects to the story that were just dropped

I think the heart of sabik was going to be more of a thing before they lost interest then forgot. re: the other ascians xeronia mentioned, gaius had some masks as trophies but didn't get details of how that went down.

As Gaius has no means to control aether and presumably had no white auracite on him they could have just come back, one of those masks was very lion-like which lines up with being Leo.. which by ff12 logic where all the names are from is Fandaniel. We never saw Fandaniel's actual mask and it does line up with his story of getting Asahi's body "This useful body I just chanced to find." presumably after Gaius killed him. At least that is how I took it.

The worst one for me was the unexplained significance of Lake Silvertear in Mor Dhona.
Hydaelyn tasked Midgardsormr to protect it and he did for 10 000 years.

But we never really explored what was the deal with that.
There's a 1.0 trailer showing the ARR primals popping out of it but that's it.

And with Hydaelyn and Midgardsormr gone, the two people tied to that plot are gone.
The only hope i have is for the Alliance Raid to mention it, considering we go to the gods realm from the lake.

The elementals of the Twelveswood get occasional mentions, come up once or twice in the conjurer/white mage job quests, and never actually go anywhere. Seems like overall they were a 1.0 plot thread that was just quietly sidelined when the plot started moving further and further from Eorzea.

The various Garlean strongholds still dotting Eorzea. As far as we know, they're still there and still inhabited, but aside from one being used as a battleground for the Emerald Weapon fight, they haven't come up in a while. For that matter, there's still the airship stranded in Azys Lla.

A: Perhaps a few of the sundered Ascians are still around, though it’s unclear whether they would be on the Source or one of the Reflections.

The masks Gaius carries around once belonged to Altima and Deudalaphon. However, Gaius simply had their masks, and whether or not he truly vanquished them has yet to be clarified. A point you may want to consider in your theories is what it takes to vanquish an Ascian.

Yup, the lion-like mask was actually... Capricorn? Don't you love it? Endwalker would've been perfect for the ~4 remainders to show up, but alas... they seem to be keeping these ascians in their pockets, and apparently have their real names and everything. Hopefully not as mere throwaways...

Well that is rather silly. Hopefully they get addressed ever as they were shown in ARR.

EDIT: Actually this reminds me please stop putting all these answer in interviews. We have an in game compendium, use it.

Boom. Nice idea right there. yeeahh it took a while but I eventually realized that the ongoing story never measures up to the stuff we imagine. Charitably it can probably be blamed on time and budget constraints. I do have respect for the writers and all the staff. Their hands are probably tied in many instances, like the fights are already decided and they just gotta write around them. The lore / backstory sounded so amazing from the start; the stuff we get to witness first-hand and participate in can never measure up. The CGI intro movie to V1 with a bit of battle of silvertear lake is still one of my favorite things.

From what they've said, they had material for another 1-2 expansions, that ended up being compressed in EW, e.g. see here or here. I get a definite sense that Yoshi was in a rush to end the current arc.

Agreed, I find this annoying, as well. If an attempt was made to keep the codex relatively unbiased (or rather: make it clearer that it's written from a certain someone's perspective), it'd be a good destination for this kind of source material.

My biggest gripe is with how the role master quest in ShB lead into setting the two survivors from the 13th onto a path of returning back to that shard but because it's behind a role master quest it is completely impossible for SE to tie them back into the MSQ.

I'd like to hope that 6.5 and 7.x are going to follow up on at least one of the "dropped" plot points that have been mentioned so far.

It would feel strange for them to raise the whole moral quandary of who really deserves to live in Corvos during the EW role quest finale but not actually touch on the matter directly.
