I've always thought them turning it off for Russia/Ukraine was a little odd. If they turn it off any time there's a conflict in the world, might as well just remove the feature altogether.
Personally I'm betting on it not being turned back on until 7.0. By then they should have all the planned new NA and EU servers added, with the available houses on those worlds being held out as the incentive to transfer and populate them.
The Russia/Ukraine conflict has had far reaching impact on that side of the world due to supply chain disruptions. It wasn't just limited to the Ukraine.
Players also aren't limited to what servers they can play on based on where they live. A lot of European players continued to play on NA worlds even after the first EU data center was added.
To me just because a war is going on shouldn't stop a feature. This is reality of the world and human nature. The rest of the world keeps moving forward despite something going on. As cold as it may sound can't let a small thing happen to keep everything shut down. There will always be conflict/ natural disasters you name it. World is s cruel place but we gotta do what we gotta do sorry for their lossesPersonally I'm betting on it not being turned back on until 7.0. This makes sense. What people don't realize about the Chaos and Light Datacenters is that the places they are located at are not usually as big as the United States, and Canada. These countries are often only as big as medium to larger American states, so when people say EU datacenters, they literally mean the entire EU, and the United Kingdom.
Its a similar distance from the American west coast to the east coast for example. Europe as a continent is around 10.80 million square kilometers across, while the United States is about 9.88 square kilometers across. In fact, it could be argued that Canada needs its own Data Center because of this. When I say America, I do not mean Canada. Canada is 9.985 million kilometers across. The problem with Canada is that the datacenters wouldn't be as useful because it has a much lower population.
Europe has 746.4 million people as of 2018.
America has 329.5 millionas of 2020.
Canada has a population of 38.01 million as of 2020.
The reason Europe is bigger is because its older, denser, and more developed due to each area being a developed country rather than a state. Canada is smaller because it has a lot of unuseable land, or land that is just too far away, or too hard to pass over due to the constant changing of ice, and snow over bodies of water. America is big because well, its America. We founded a large country, and populated it in a similar way to a Republic. We also increased our population heavily during the last few centuries.
As a result I do not see the housing demolition closed any time soon until Ukrainian FFXIV players can safely resume logging in to check on their houses.
Canada needs at least one data center for ping times, but its not likely any time soon. There may not be enough players to support it. Though I know a lot of people that play in Vancouver and Victoria. (some of my friends.) My current FC is also primarily Canadian. This game is played a lot in Canada, it just not be known enough that there are a lot of players.
Now they could resume demolition on NA, and Japanese Servers, but I don't know if they will. Some people refuse to leave the servers even after servers closer to home are introduced. Japan and Russia have also had tense relations and are technically under a ceasefire with Russia. Square Enix has also had a reputation for hiring Russian talent I.e. Origa. She was a brilliant singer all the way until her passing, so I imagine the Russian/Ukrainian topic is quite sensitive to them, and they are merely adapting out of courtesy. I have a feeling that there is an overall fear of potential retaliation from Russia as well, even if things seem alright at the time. It's a sensitive topic, so I think the demolition being non active still stands for those reasons.
