I think Yoshida once again underestimated the game's own playerbase. You really werent supposed to grind it out but the idea is that they'll be updating IS within the content patch cycle so you spread out your time with it accordingly.

This is why I havent worked on mines yet at all. Ive been busy doing other things and catch up since I knew the incentive to get max level wasnt going to be worth it from launch since there wouldnt be much content to it until it gets improved and expanded.
It wasn't even much of a "grind". I went at it pretty casually and I was level 10 in less than two weeks after launch. In less than 4 weeks after launch, I had the bike and both hairstyles. This is with using a couple templates I made up for my workshop queues. No micromanagement whatsoever. My island is now basically in maintenance mode with mammets managing everything and I only stop in once a week to collect things and top off materials if I need to.

There's nothing to it. No substance. For me at least, if they don't add a lot more to it it's never going to be anything more than a passive source of glamour prisms and a few dyes. And this is supposed to be the big feature of the expansion.
