I'd also like the ability to have cross-server friend lists or even invite cross-server people to our LS's if possible.
Indeed. Everything should be fine if they just add this & if the person can't handle the party's final decision, they deserve to deal with it or leave & queue back up.

They also have a voting system to choose the leader of your party in other games. FF11 desperately needed this when people fell asleep. I would love to see this added in case the leader of a party AFK's for too long.

He mentioned that he is not really thinking about implementing solo-centric end-game content, but with the introduction of the content finder in version 2.0, it will make it easier to group up and challenge content without the stress of forming parties yourself. There are also plans to increase the number of quests as well.
Okay, while I somewhat appreciate that we're getting a content finder (I say that with a grain of salt after watching it destroy WoW's community), that's not the issue. When I want to solo, it's not usually because I have trouble finding a party (I play healers in all my MMOs, I don't often have that problem). It's because I don't feel like playing with a group at the moment. Believe it or not, I don't want to party 24/7. And after reading some responses in this thread, I know I'm not alone.

I don't see solo content in a game as a second choice. Sometimes it's my first choice.

I'm very glad we're getting more quests, however. That's been a glaring content hole for a long time. Quests, quests, and more quests with a side of quests, please!!!

I would also like to see more solo content for the classes, moving forward.

    Same.

Someone said earlier that people who enjoy solo play are horrible at being in a group, but that is not always the case. Sometimes we want to avoid groups because of how OTHER people are horrible at being in a group, despite thinking the opposite. I wouldn't want to play with someone who is so quick to make silly assumptions, for instance. In my experience, those people tend to cause trouble in groups.

I play multiple MMOs, and I also play single player games. I also have a life outside of games, which has to come first. One of the original selling points for FFXIV was that one could log in, play for a short time (solo or otherwise), and feel like they accomplished something. Is that no longer what we're going for here? That is part of why I started playing. I don't know if I see myself being able to handle endgame across more than one MMO, so if there ends up being nothing I can do if I log on at off-peak hours when I'm bored, then I may begin to question why I am paying for this game.

I personally think it is incredibly unwise to neglect solo content, or some sort of dynamic content that people can join on their own and be automatically grouped up with others doing the same thing (not content finder, but similar to Rift's system when dealing with rifts). Another option are the battle scenario things that Blizzard is adding into WoW with 5.0, which are made for small groups of 3 or so people that do not require specific roles (anyone can join them as any class/spec/role without worry). That isn't solo content, exactly, but they are meant to be quick, easy, and stress-free. Sometimes people like us solo because we want to avoid stress, so we would be more likely to group up more often if you provide us with some "filler" activities that won't make us want to pull our hair out late at night.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth. I'll try to wait it out for 2.0, but in the end, I'll be voting with my money. FFXIV will have to do a lot to convince me that it deserves my full attention, and a large variety of content for both solo and group play is the only thing that will do that. Please consider this. Thank you.

Have you people ever played another MMO besides FFXI?

Every single MMO (except FFXI) has 1000's of quests which are primarily done solo. It has always been this way and always should be.

Every MMO (except FFXI) has Class/Job quests & Storylines that you can complete solo and at your own pace. It has always been this way and always should be.

Every MMO also has Party-based content that you either need a full party to complete or need to be "over-leveled" in order to complete with a short party or solo.

FFXI was and still is the one and only exception to having tons of solo content and imo is the main reason it was never more popular than it was.

Yes the "point" of an MMO is to play with other people but not all the time 24/7, 7 days a week.

Please stop with this failed "go play a single player offline game" crap. It is really getting old and is just not factual.

p.s. Sorry for the rant...going to bed now...obviously need sleep cuz am getting cranky (although I am old so I am allowed) ;>P
I've played many MMO's and let me tell you something, never did I ever come close to adding the same amount of people to friends list on all the MMO's combined than FFXI.

I don't talk to anyone I've met in any other MMO that isn't FFXI, the only one person I talk to that I met in WoW played FFXI! I still talk to some of my old FFXI through phone and email some every once in a while. I cant say I've ever kept in contact with anyone from any other game. Reason differ but FFXI made you bond with people forcing party play and sharing those memories with them is always going to be better than "hey I can play solo!".

What I would like to know is if they are planning to release more content for solo players.

I got pretty much all classes (but gladiator/paladin) to 50 from a long time ago and I already got all af pieces for all my available jobs (except whm body) and to be honest...besides shouting for parties for the new dungeons...I have NOTHING to do battle wise.

Sure I could go craft to finish leveling my culinarian or gather to finish my FSH...btu I like FIGHTING.

All in all there's no content, right now, (at least IMHO) for max level people and that worries me.
I'm gonna give you a response you do not want, heard a lot, and are tired of hearing: if you want solo play a console rpg. Lots to do, always crap to fight, and plenty of gear to collect. Oh and it has a really cool story! Lots of awesome cutscenes..you cant go wrong.

Seriously though, asking for more solo content in a "Massively Multiplayer Online RPG" is like asking for multiplayer content on "insert random console rpg here". Sure they might throw in a feature (Pokemon games, Dragon Quest IX, etc.), but in general the game won't go out of its way to add more content like that. The point of an MMO is, obviously, cooperative play: solo content is more or less a bone they throw out to ppl short on time. You want solo? Play some Skyrim.

If you're bored, you should be asking for more party content lol. Solo content is just not the focus of an MMO.

Your analogy doesn't work for MMORPG games like EVE Online, Star Trek Online, and even FFXI because they all have content/events for solo players to participate in.

Well duh there always exceptions, and varying levels of solo content...but where is the majority of the content in those MMO games? Party Play. Duh, its an MMORPG. If solo content was the focus it wouldnt be, derp, an MMORPG.

I'm being snarky but the point is that while games may add solo content, it is generally not the focus. Whether you like my analogy or not, if your focus is more on solo content dont look for it in an MMORPG. If I want to go snowboarding the first place I'm gonna go isn't going to be Africa. I mean seriously. They might build a few artifical snow resorts somehow, but i'd be much better off hitting up Alaska or Canada. That was the point of the post, in case you missed it lol
