Buying tomestone gear upgrades with nuts is meant as a catch-up thing. It wouldn't make much sense to have a catch-up thing right at the start of a new savage tier, especially considering it would mostly invalidate the Shine/Twine dropping from P6S/P7S.
If you want to upgrade your gear faster, get into that savage tier. The only useful things left to me to buy with nuts are the materials to upgrade gear. Buying more materia is a waste when I have HUNDREDS of clusters for both Tier 9 and Tier 10 from doing hunt trains. Additionally I am not a crafter so buying items to desynth is not an option for me. I'm not asking for them to blow the cap wide open though. Maybe doubling it might allow me to upgrade two or three pieces of gear when the new materials are available. Would it really be that problematic to allow players to upgrade a couple of pieces of gear immediately once the new mats become available?
You can, though. Wait until patch 6.3 to start the process; you can then grind the tomes to get the gear and grind the nuts to get the upgrade materials at the same time. Yes, that means you'll be limited by the weekly tomestone cap on Causality, but you will be progressing both at once.
I guess my question is what causes this perceived pressure to upgrade the gear as quickly as possible? Because realistically, unless you are doing current savage stuff, having the upgraded i630 gear is not really useful for anything right now. Sure, it can be nice for that dopamine hit of "look my numbers got bigger", but realistically the difference between i630 and i620 is not going to be meaningful outside of savage right now.
Sure, i630 gear will be ridiculously OP in any casual level 90 content that doesn't ilevel-sync your gear... but so will i620 gear, really.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

My issue with it is less about upgrading gear faster than it is about not wasting Nuts on things that I have no use for. As for getting into Savage tier, that is not possible for me as I can not do Savage due to my affliction (Parkinsons). To be honest, for the vast majority of activities I can do in the game, the gear is really just overkill but it is fun to have. I just don't like wasting Nuts though. An increase in the Nut cap would allow me to bank a few more of those Nuts. Alternatively, the devs could add other interesting things that could be purchased with Nuts, like more glams or orchestrion rolls or mounts or furnishings or crafting materials (so I can help the crafters in my FC) and that would make me happy too.

Nut vendors have their set offerings and there are other ways to get those other items you're looking for. You can look back at Shadowbringers to see all that's offered once the the tier is complete. My issue with it is less about upgrading gear faster than it is about not wasting Nuts on things that I have no use for. If you want to help the crafters in your FC via adventuring, spend those astronomy tomes on the ingredients for the master recipe components.
I don't know what more to say other than learn to stop viewing this as a loss of nuts. You'll have your reserve for when the upgrade items come out and then it's back to farming, if that's your preferred route. If you're after the hunt achievement mounts, there's no way to avoid capping out currency. Even if they add more items to the vendor, you'll eventually be done with those as well. I stopped doing hunt trains once I got all I needed and I'll pick it up again with 6.3
The offerings of Nut vendors are meager at best and I have long since gotten everything that they had to offer outside of the materia. What is wrong with asking for more things to be added to the list? Yes, eventually I will have gotten any new stuff as well but at least it would keep me busy for a while longer. As for Astronomies, I am already spending them for crafting materials for my FC mates. It means for me that Astronomies are never wasted. It would be nice if they could do something like that for Nuts as well. Hunt trains generate Poetics and Astronomies as well as Causalities and Nuts. The Poetics and Astronomies can be turned in for materials to aid crafters and gardeners. The Causalities get used for the new gear. The Nuts are the odd man out. Buy more materia. There's nothing wrong with asking, but given how they handled hunt currencies for every expansion, I don't see them changing their ways. The offerings of Nut vendors are meager at best and I have long since gotten everything that they had to offer outside of the materia. Well, I will continue to ask as buying materia is pointless for me when I already get so much from the hunt trains to begin with. I have HUNDREDS of unspent clusters of both Tier 9 and Tier 10. Every now and then I convert some of them and sell them on the MB but that is not terribly useful to me as I really don't need the Gil.
If it's less "I want to upgrade the gear faster" and more just "I hate hitting the nuts cap and having nothing to spend them on", that I can more readily agree with. I tend to think most capped currencies should have some stuff you can spend it on that's a consumable in some form; given a long enough playtime, any currency that doesn't, sooner or later you'll run out of things to buy.
Nuts do offer you materia, as noted, which sort-of qualifies... but the materia is mostly just useful to the people who are doing savage and want to overmeld in week 1. Though even if you don't care about the gil, you mention you'd like stuff you could give to folks in your FC... and I promise you, any raiders in your FC would probably be extremely happy to receive stacks of free materia, especially when 6.4 lands.
But that aside, most other capped currencies (save current tomestones) seem to have some goofy little thing you can spend it on endlessly, like the Icarus feathers from PvP or whatnot. So maybe nuts could stand to have some things like the fancier dyes, little visual things like the Meteor Survivor glamour prisms (that have a meteor crash down and turn into the game's icon) or "Realm Reborn Red" which you shake up and spray like a bottle of champagne, or whatnot.
Unfortunately, I do suspect Deveryn is correct that adding a whole bunch of other stuff (orchestrions, furniture, etc.) to the Nuts vendors is not in the cards; the devs have demonstrably shown that they don't want any one system to be a single way in which you can get all the stuff. Especially since as soon as they do, we as a playerbase have demonstrated we will treat that system as mandatory and flood it.
As it is, hunt trains are already one of the more effective grinding methods because (as you note) you get both types of current endgame tomestone and the nuts, which probably leads to some of the vitriol that happens if a hunt train decides a mark is 'theirs' and then some other group comes along and blithely goes "Cool! A hunt mark! Let's kill that!"
(And if you think people get salty now... I mean, can you imagine the vitriol if in addition nuts were the One True Currency and people felt pressured to grind them specifically?)
