XIV crafting and gathering already has a ton of options. Using dungeons for crafting and gathering wouldn't add much other than aesthetics. The core process is still the same. If you want a change of scenery, take yourself out into the open world areas. There are plenty of safe spots to craft.
The problem with crafting outside of city hubs is losing access to your retainers, which would be holding a vast majority of your crafting materials.

If the devs could figure out how to let us auto access our retainer's inventory for whatever we need without actually needing to call them in order to manual take whatever we need from them, than this problem would be fixed.

They're not likely to do that. It's easy enough to just pack your bags and go somewhere. A little inventory management goes a long way. I like to keep all the top tier materials in my saddlebag, so I can easily craft those recipes.

Plus, Haukke Manor isn't technically owned by anybody at the moment, unless Lady Amedine has any relatives in the area willing to inherit her cursed manor.

Sorry, EQ2 was EverQuest II and was Sony Online Entertainment's (now it's like Daybreak Games) sequel to EverQuest that took place 500 years later down an alternate timeline.

And Deveryn, a change of scenery doesn't change that you're just sitting around endlessly grinding crafts. EQII's mission system wasn't overly complicated (what do you expect from a game from 2004) but it did try to make the activity a little more active.

You still sat around grinding crafts. Maybe you dodged a few mobs here and there to get the items needed. It wasn't all that exciting and the novelty wore off rather quickly. It became a grind for status and Far Seas tokens.

    My main points:
Everything being asked for here has more or less been covered elsewhere in the game.
There's little to be done to make something like crafting more engaging.

You can put all the trappings you want on it. In the end, you're still gonna take a knee and do that same routine. If you want to go on an adventure, there are plenty of adventures out there.

My gut reaction is "no", but that's mostly because I feel like any system along those lines... you'd want the materials to be useful for something. But if they're useful for something that confers some sort of meaningful game advantage, the Gatherer dungeons become functionally mandatory. (At least, given the way we as a player community tend to approach things.)

So you want something useful to do with what you gather -- something that draws people back in more than once, instead of just ticking 'well, I collected that' off of a checklist. But you want it not to be so useful than it becomes mandatory in some way.

I feel like that's the key problem that needs to be solved first. I actually like the idea, mind you; it's just that that feels like a pretty key element to be lacking.

I spent the third Eden raid tier doing my food/pot crafting on top of Kugane Tower, for some godsforsaken reason. I definitely got in the habit of keeping the current tier crafting mats in my saddlebag. ;P

(Terrifyingly, I was not the only one; there were about four of us up there doing that. Two are still on my friends list!)

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

I don't know about solo crafter dungeons, but I had an idea awhile ago to create "Ocean Fishing" versions of events for the Miner and the Botanist.

A gold mining company out of Uldah hiring day labor for mining their new mine with variable cave locations based on the time of day.

Similarly a deep forest tour out of Girdania with variable clearings to harvest things from with the same 2 hour tour schedule as "Ocean Fishing" tours.

Since there are no baits for these gathering classes I would suggest using a select-able tool interface similar to the former jigs the fisher used. The three for miner could be trowel, pick-axe, hammer or dynamite for specific mining returns. And the three for botanist could be gardening shears, handsaw, and Axe or Hatchet for specific botany returns.

I mean we got Diadem and Island Sanctuary and its so much fun to gather in a instance... Totally evolves it into just more of the same gathering.

Eh, that's about right. Though I don't trust the current devs to make something that fun. lol
