Yeah i can't blame them at all. This place can get filled with animosity, tribalism and overall negativity. Must feel unrewarding and depressing to interact here everyday.Every so often we get a person who's assigned here.
They make an intro post, and they get love bombed, everybody bending over backwards to be as nice as possible and make a lovely first impression.
Time passes... and well... I went through and found first post, and LAST POST from that account ever, and added the last post to the first post, so people could see how long that person survived.
It was rarely as much as three months before they just NOPED right out and didn't have anything else to do with americans.
Eh, Contextual Bias. This is the one place the devs accept any form of criticism, so naturally you'll see more negatives than otherwise.
You'll still see idiots talking out of their arse literally everywhere else, the forums just make it worse due to that negativity thing.
Yeah that's fair. Especially when there's a ton of rightful criticism about issues that needs to be addressed. I can get how some may be passionate about some of these ossues that seems to fall on deaf ears.Eh, Contextual Bias. I just wish there was more civility in some of these discussions, between the constant bickering and passive aggressiveness this environment can feel quite hostile, despite arguing about serious issues.

I know certain posters are desperate to paint this place and utterly terrible though some of us have been posting around these parts for years and the hostility is almost exclusively coming from those desperate to stifle feedback despite that being touted as this place's primary function.
Twitter and Reddit are far worse and far more hostile. I'm really not sure how people getting a bit heated and testy here is meant to compare to people spamming inboxes with links to explicit gore/hardcore adult material which is hosted elsewhere on both sites.
I've heard multiple horror stories - and even been subjected to it myself - on both venues. I even had to ditch a Reddit account because the same person repeatedly made throwaway accounts for months and dropped links to such things in response to every comment I made.
All because I claimed I didn't like G'raha Tia.
Is this place perfect? No. Though even if I can raise an eyebrow at times in response to the lack of official communication from the development team at least I guarantee that the moderators will step in here if certain lines are crossed. The same cannot be said of Twitter and Reddit.
Let's also not forget that the development team have direct control over this site. If they want to improve things here, they very much have the power to do so.
The more the community team ignores the EN OF, the more it festers. The more it festers, the less anyone wants to do anything with it. It's like cleaning your room daily vs cleaning your room once per year--perhaps the work is similar cumulatively, but spreading it out over time makes it less effort overall. Especially when after a year grime gets into places.
If there's a problem with the way users interact, community managers should enforce against it. If EN users are too boisterous, loud, obnoxious, trolly, working too hard to mini-mod, spamming posts or threads...the EN community team and moderation staff should work to fix it. If that's not what they're paid to do, and the EN OF was meant to be left like this, well...
This is literally what they're asking for.
We're all adults here (allegedly). It should fall on us to take some responsibility for the direction of these forums and not take the 'murican route of trying to rely heavily on the police to keep things in order.
Agreed, this is their venue at the day and they bear partial culpability here. Definitely something where they themselves would get more value out of it were they to improve how the place is run.The more the community team ignores the EN OF, the more it festers. Yeah, agreed. Less of it survives on reddit because the mods (sometimes over-zealously) clean it up, but not always, and as you say that can morph into very strange stalking/harassment, often using throwaway accounts, with people you may only ever have interacted once, all for expressing a view they disliked. As for Twitter? That place just isn't built for discussions like a traditional forum is. Very cliqueish, discussions trail off through being nested and plenty of hostility. If SE staff can review these sites for feedback, and perhaps even more hostile ones, I fail to see why they are incapable of putting in place better moderation and interaction with their players on this site.I know certain posters are desperate to paint this place and utterly terrible though some of us have been posting around these parts for years and the hostility is almost exclusively coming from those desperate to stifle feedback despite that being touted as this place's primary function.
