It's never enough for Squeenix. Even during a sale store items are insanely overpriced. I couldn't buy anything this year because the prices are just too damned high for my meager budget. How do they justify these outrageously high prices? How do people justify paying them? $42 dollars for a mount? Who has that kind of money!?

    Give us a break, Squeenix.

People love to talk about how expensive XIV is. It's not.

As a hobby, gaming is incredibly cheap. You spend almost nothing.

If I buy 2 Lego sets a year, it's more than I spend on XIV, by a long shot. Especially when it's the bigger sets.

I love how you can use this exact same argument with loot crates. Never change gamers, lol.

No, loot crates are terrible, they prey on people and can drain vulnerable people's life savings. No one should be OK with loot crates.

    Very much agree!

The MMO I played previous to FFXIV was very commited to a loot crate model. It was one (of many) reasons I quit that game. They put everything players really wanted in those damn boxes and you'd hear of players spending literally hundreds (and in some cases thousands) trying to win that grand prize and subsequently expressing buyer's remorse when the boxes dropped a stack of 'junk' they didn't really want or need.
And to make things worse the studio in question flat refused to divulge the odds (and still do), although players opening boxes on the game's test server did work out that the odds of winning the grand prize were something like 0.05%

Anyway, having experienced that sort of sleazy predatory cash-grab mentality I'd say that buying guaranteed items for (what I consider to be) a reasonable price isn't actually so bad!

I wish i still had spare money for lego sets. Last i bought was the hospital one in 2018's black friday, and a bunch of train tracks for the high speed set.

Oh yes, because Bugatti's exist and Rick Ross and Drake and all the other prolific rappers and hip hop artists buy them suddenly FFXIV is the cheapest thing in the world.

....What? I just followed the train of thought you provided to its logical conclusion.

Pfft. You keep on telling yourself that the Mogstation and it's perpetually rising prices aren't any less predatory.

THEY FOLLOW THE SAME CONCEPT. Grubby magpies of consumers with no self-control. Loot crates, Mogstation, same difference really. They're merely preying upon the bad habits you provide them and continue to justify on their forums.

    So.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's not what I said... At all...

I was literally only comparing hobbies that most people have.

Reading is incredibly expensive if you buy every book. I've spent more on books than I have XIV in the last year lol.

It's simply a point of comparison.

    You keep being you tho.

I can't go out to a mid-level restaurant for dinner and a drink and spend less than $18.00, which is $13 for the sub + 5 for a month's portion of an expansion. I get sustenance for half a day and an hour of enjoyment. Put another way, a movie where I am is about $13.00 for an adult ticket, which is a month's sub. Two coffees is $13.00 where I am. Hell, even a cheap cut of beef to make my wife and I dinner is more than $13.00 and that's *cooking at home*.

If you average a single (1) hour of game time per day you're paying 51 cents per day, or $1.53 for three (3) hours of entertainment. This is more than a meal, movie, or cup of coffee get you for as much, or more, than the total monthly subscription cost of this game. That is an extremely cost-effective form of entertainment and is *very* cheap compared to other hobbies. For someone who averages even two hours per day, MMO gaming is a ridiculously low-cost form of entertainment.

    Folks,

You're welcome to hold your opinion on the Mogstation, but please refrain from insulting people who choose to spend their money there. If they find value in that purchase, it's their money. If you don't find value in the -completely optional- items, don't buy them. Express your opinion to SE with your wallet. Express your opinion to SE here on the forums. Don't express your opinion of people who buy from the Mogstation in public.

The relative cost to other medium is never the point. A sedan is still incredibly cheap car comparing to a Rolls Royce, but if Chevrolet ask 50k for their most basic trim Aveo that's still a rip off comparing to the half millions Rolls Royce. An overprice item is an overprice item, irregardless of other more expensive item.

And the mog station is not only over-priced, but also limited to 1 character which itself is probably even a bigger rip off than the already high asking price.
