This just makes me think of the fact that to this day thanjit says WHORE in my mind
Sound effects in raids really are just bad

BOW DOWN OVERDWELLER!Did you know, that contrary to popular belief, Titans theme does NOT say
"JKGUJJNJHFDH JHFDHJFG DFGFJG TITAN!!!!"?
Yeah I was as schocked as you...
Leviathans lyrics are also very hard to understand and it's mostly just "leviathan"
Definitely was always a thing
Edit: Also i'd say the VOICE mixing got WAY worse.
I have voices turned all up and can't hear ANYTHING over it anymore and yet... the bosses nowadays... i can't hear them anyways, I don't get it
Other bosses from earlier raids/trials/whatever could actually be heard and now I barely hear Azeymas VOICE TELL for her attack :/

It's sound over substance. Been going on for a while.
Huge booming instrumentals, whisper quiet, terribly mixed vocals.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

they have been doing that since ARR and they are aware that we always try to figure out the lyrics and make memes about them so it's completely intentional

Honestly, I think it's a mixing issue. I think it may be a combination of the people mixing the music aren't fluent in English so they aren't trying to bring out the definition of the lyrics as much since individual words don't mean anything to them. And I think they just don't care about the lyrics in general. I've noticed with a lot of their music, the vocals basically blend in with the rest of the audio. Feels like they are treating vocals as just another "instrument" and blending it as such rather than bringing it to the forefront so it can be fully understood.
I noticed with the orchestral releases, at times you can barely hear the words. I specifically remember the orchestral version of the Heavensward theme, and the choral part at the end can barely be heard above the rest of the orchestra. You can hear it enough that the tone is there, but not enough to actually make out what's being said. I feel like there were a few other songs I felt were like that.

I doubt it's intentional to make the words hard to understand just so people can speculate on the lyrics. If that were the case, I'd honestly call them dumb for that. Speculation on lyrics only lasts a few months. The track itself will exist much longer than that.

Wow, that is...sooo much better than what I hear.
What I hear is "KILL ME, KILL ME, KILL ME". Made me think Garleans had used people and synced them up against their will in machines (and yes, without spoiling, I know how ironic that sounds now) and they were begging for death.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
It's a combination of:
- Lyrics drowned out by in-game sounds
- Rapidly-spoken lyrics
- Electronic vocal effects
- Latin chanting
- Dragonspeak
- Soken's accent
Reminds me of how people tried to guess the lyrics for Episode Ardyn's theme in FFXV since they were pretty muffled too.
