Lol, my thought exaclty. xD
I'm rather against tails. I don't play a Roegadyn but I like the race a lot and want to choose them as my NPC fellows (want a female roegadyn friend in 2.0).
Neither can I agree upon the idea that they all look hyuran-like because I think that's a personal view and to me all races are pretty distinctive.
The only character I find a bit too similar to a human is Merlwyb herself, but only ingame, that is. I like her perfectly well on the concept art (maelstrom "homepage") because she has this rough hair and a grey-blueish skin colour while she is 08/15-Caucasian in the game. I wish they would change that for 2.0 because somehow I think that makes her look much tougher and gives her more authority.
But I guess they won't.
I'd be ok if there were differeft tribes, one with tails, one without.
(Somehow I can rather see hell's guard roes with a tale. Probably because their lore is more "beastly" and the vulcano issue reminds me of dragons...Dunno why I can't imagine them so well on the sailor tribe.)
I wouldn't mind more distinction between the tribes but I'd prefer to do this by details. For example except for the tails and colour schemes mi'qotes look the same. Both can have patterns/paintings on their face and have narrow pupils although the lore said that the first is a characteristic trait of the moon cats and the heterochrome and narrow-pupilled eyes of the sun cats.
So anyways, I think there is already a lot distinction, that might be emphasized a bit more but overall I'm very happy.
I can also rather see the Roegadyns as a more humanuid race (I never played FF11) and I like the fact that there are women amongst them. ._. Why shouldn't there...And even though there is this striking similarity to FF11 (.........) I still wish to be FF14 FF14 and not FF11...just my opinion.
Excuse me, they can't just conjure tails out of effing thin air. They took them off the back and moved them to the front (trust me ^.~) so if you want them to have tails then you can't have female Roes since they will all go back to being hermaphrodites.
I can understand that players who never played the last installment of FF MMO could be somewhat uncomfortable with the addition of tails. I suppose it does make them stand out and look rather odd. Then again that was the point back then though. The Galka were by far the most alien of the playable races. Sharing next to no character traits with any other sentient faction. For those who did play Galka the tail it holds special significance. Not only was it the most striking physical feature but it also held the key to reproduction via magical mountain asexual mitosis. (Don't ask)
That seems to be a hang up for some people as well but the way I see it. Two genders in the Roegadyn race and having tails don't have to be mutually exclusive. The reason for their being may have been far more pivotal before but that doesn't mean it cannot play a lesser role. Or no role at all, other then being an extra appendage.
I rather like Loggos' idea. I am convinced at this point that Eorzea and Vanadiel are the same world. It is only a matter of timing. Smalls hints here and there along with the fact that 5 distinct races of intelligent humanoid are still kicking around suggest it takes place hundreds of thousands (If not millions) of years later. The Hellguard could be refashioned to include tails in their line. Sticking around mountains may just be in their blood (lol) even after the race as a whole began reproducing the more convectional way. Point is just because we have new lore for the race do not mean the tail HAS to be axed. It just cannot be there for its original purpose.
If Roegalkyn think they were born the wrong way in FFXIV because they have no tail, then let's glue them a tail on their back!
I'd love to see Hells guard take on a more devilish appearance.. maybe with a tail... just slightly...
Says the guy from the race with no changes from XI.
Your up-do is ugly!

That doesn't make Galka's tails pretty, they still remain ugly.Your up-do is ugly!
Roegadyns are bad ass, Galkas are short legged, tailed mutated things.
Played FF11 for 7 years, galkas are the only race that I didn't like their look.I can understand that players who never played the last installment of FF MMO could be somewhat uncomfortable with the addition of tails. Well Galka players disagree lol
I can see why the Roegadyn as they are now may be more attractive in the sense that they look extremely human but that for a fantasy race a poor example make.
