Difference between PLD and GNB or other casters and BLM is what, 5%+? That is obviously big enough to have difference in passing the check.

Correct, the week 1 dps check is supposed to be extremely tight. If SE looks at this and doesnt conclude that they messed up job balance, they are throwing their goal of keeping every job viable in all content overboard. It'll no longer be 'play whichever job you like' and instead 'play whichever job we dont mess up'.
IIRC depending on which DPS numbers you're looking at, the difference in tank roles alone account for about 0.35-0.8% of the door boss' health.
Which doesn't sound like a lot, but if you're constantly hitting enrage at 50%, that's gonna sting.
I haven't looked at the specific numbers for DPS/Healers, but I think there are similar differences in DPS. Healers I think are a lot closer.
With that in mind, the difference between a fully "meta" comp (MNK, BLM, DNC, GNB) and a fully "non meta" (RPR, RDM, MCH, PLD) could be anywhere between 1.4-3.2% of his health, which is by no means insignificant.
The requirement is 62500 rDPS iirc. GNB and DRK are about 300 aDPS ahead of WAR at all percentiles and 400 ahead of PLD. 700 DPS headstart of a DRK/ GNB comp over WaR/ PLD is more than 1% of his HP (2% on other bosses). Add other classes into the mix and you'd hit enrage at almost 10% on normal bosses.
